An entry of 639 sheep forward at the Craig Wilson sale saw 254 lambs averaging 396p per kg and selling to 449p for Beltex from J Paterson and Co, Kildarroch. Price per head reached £209 for Suffolks from R and D Wilson, High Barness. Lleyns topped the hogg trade at 327p or £172 from J Howatson, Risk. Cast sheep sold to £178 for a Bluefaced Leicester ewe from J Cannon, Clauchrie.


Spring lambs sold to £188 per head for Texels from M and G Barr, Meikle Kirkland at the C and D Auctions sale with price per kg selling to 437p from A and E Hyslop, Maryfield. Hoggs realised £196 for Texels from M McTaggart, Dunjop and 359p from R Thomson, Lanarkland. Cast sheep sold to £278 for Texel ewes from Dunjop.


C and D Auctions Marts had forward 8648 sheep comprising of 2529 hoggs, 1118 lambs and 5001 cast sheep. Lambs averaged 414p per kg and sold to 482p for Texel lambs from DJL Livestock, Northway, Throckley and to £232 for Suffolks from both HM Martindale, The Land, Ecclefechan and W Barbour, Carsegowan, Dumfries. Hoggs averaged 310.9p and sold to 431p for Beltex from Hallbankgate Farms, Hallbankgate, Brampton and to £270 for Texels from C Jackson, Langdyke Cottage, Ecclefechan. Cast sheep reached £300 for Texel ewes from Cole Hill Farm Ltd, Cole Hill, Hartlepool.

Some 4844 sheep comprising of 3023 hoggs, 591 lambs and 1230 cast sheep sold by United Auctions. New season lambs averaged 395.38p per kg and sold to 448p for Texels from South Ballaird and to £220 per head for Texels from Little Raith. Hoggs averaged 291.03p and sold to 397p for Cheviots from Shannachar Cottage and to £250 for Texels from Kinclaven. Cast sheep sold to £240 for Texel ewes from Netherside.

Heifers and bullocks averaged 293.71p and 286.61p per kg respectively at the Caledonian Marts sale. Heifers sold to 318p from both M Orr and Sons, Penston and DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill and to £2056 per head for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres. Bullocks reached 315p for a Limousin from Easter Ochtermuthill and to £2180 for a Shorthorn from J Lamb, Ingleston, Ayrshire. Young bulls reached 265p for a Charolais from J and S Barr, Leyden and £2024 for a Shorthorn from I and S Graham, Balgay. Cast cattle averaged 195.2p and realised 234p for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston and £2040 for a Shorthorn from ML Wilson, Baluskie. Tuesday sheep sale saw 121 new season lambs average 391.88p and sell to 295p and £218 for Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill. Hoggs sold to 317p for Suffolks from W Nisbet, Bogside and to £179 for Cheviots from A Hamilton, Mid Forrest. Cast sheep averaged £122 and reached £197 for Texel ewes from R and J Kinnaird, Findatie.


Aberdeen and Northern sold 1684 sheep at their sale with 266 new season lambs averaging 372.3p per kg and selling to 417.9p for Texels from Clinterty, New Aberdour. Price per head reached £206 for Beltex from North Lurg, Midmar. Old season lambs (779) averaged 290.1p and sold to 342.3p for Beltex crosses from Heads of Auchinderran, Aultmore and to £182.50 for Texel crosses from North Canterbury, Cornhill. Cast sheep averaged £136.70 and sold to £234.50 for Texels from Oldtown, Peterculter. Bullocks (33) sold to 299p for a 520kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle and to £2259.60 for an 840kg Charolais cross from Daies, Wardhouse. Heifers (31) sold to 317p or £2044.65 for a 645kg Limousin cross from Stoneyhill, Keith-Hall. Heifers (83) averaged 301p and sold to 343p for a 573kg Limousin from R Hirst, Neasham Grange and to £2132 for a 652kg Limousin from N Brown, West Hartburn Farm. Young bulls (49) averaged 279p and sold to 333p for a 693kg Limousin and £2568 for an 862kg Limousin both from J Layfield, Nackshivan Farm. Two cast cows sold to 186p or £1446. An entry of 101 cattle and 1831 sheep forward at the Harrison and Hetherington sale saw 14 bullocks and 46 heifers averaged 282p and 285p per kg respectively. Bullocks sold to 306p from Penston and £2071.72 per head from Upper Nisbet. Heifers reached 330p from Bee Edge and £1997.12 from Penston. One young bull sold to 200p or £1140 from Tushielaw. Cast cows averaged 202p and sold to 276p from Crookhouse and £2109.58 from Kersknowe. Lambs (830) averaged 421.4p and sold to 479.6p and £235 for Texels from Fishwick. Bullocks sold to £2257.85 for a 739kg Limousin cross from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith and to 311.5p for a 690kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hewetson, Lords Close, Maryport. Monday’s sale saw 51 prime cattle and 70 cast cows sold by Lawrie and Symington. Limousin heifers sold to 345p per kg and £2228 per head from Hill Farm, Strathaven. Limousin bullocks sold to 258p or £2163 from South Arnloss Farm, Falkirk. Beef cows sold to £1910 for Charolais from Midlock Farm, Biggar and to 236p for Limousins from Burnbrae Farm, Lesmahagow. In the sheep trade 264 new season lambs averaged 402p and sold to 510p or £254 for Beltex from Messrs Bunting, Bridgestone Farm, Castle Douglas. Hoggs (1942) averaged 309p and sold to 389p and £224 for Texels from Messrs Hamilton, Rowantreehill Farm, Forth and Sandford Sheep Co respectively. Cast sheep (1542) sold to £300 for a Texel ewes from both Messrs Harvie, Mayfield Farm, Lesmahagow and Messrs Gray, Langside Farm, Lanark with an overall averaged of 120.94p.


Some 1070 sheep consisting of 538 lambs, 270 hoggs, and 262 cast sheep sold at the Craig Wilson sale. Lambs averaged 402.71p per kg and sold to 448p for Beltex crosses from Knockterra Farming and to £224 per head for Texels from R Shennan and Sons, Farden. Hoggs sold to £168 for Texels from Lindsayston and to 338p for Beltex from Balcaimie. Cast sheep sold to £187 for Texel cross ewes from S Lindsay, Glenconnor. Heifers (12) averaged 307.1p and sold to 324p for a Limousin from the Young family, Girvan Mains and to £2294 for a Limousin from the Smith family, North Boig. One bullock sold to 313p or £1878 for a Limousin from North Boig. Cast cattle sold to £2240 for a Charolais bull from Maxwelston.


United Auctions sold 462 sheep on Tuesday with 100 new season lambs averaging 370p per kg and selling to 407p for 44kg Texels from 16 Nether Dallachy, Spey Bay and to £188 for 55kg Suffolks from Inchford, Cornhill. Old season lambs (109) averaged 275p and reached 317p for 58.5kg Texels from Woodbank, Drumblade and to £196 for 79kg Texels from Aleisk, Alves. Cast sheep sold to £208 for a pair of Texel tups from Newton, Cabrach.


Some 413 sheep forward at the Dingwall and Highlands Marts sale with 38 new season lambs selling to 388p per kg for a pair of 43kg Texel crosses from Lochdhu, Nairn and £183 per head for Texel crosses from Smallburn Farms, Elgin. Old season lambs (73) realised 250p for a pen of 30kg Cheviots from 14 Opinan, Gairloch and £132 for a 70kg Cheviot from Ose Farm, Struan. Cast sheep (302) reached £220 for a Texel cross ewe from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin. Nine bullocks averaged 292.6p and sold to 306p for a 565kg Limousin cross from Udale, Poyntzfield and to £1883.60 for a 680kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock. Two heifers averaged 295.2p and sold to 301p and £1806 for a 600kg Charolais cross from Udale.

Kirkby Stephen

Harrison and Hetherington sold 1032 spring lambs taking an overall average of 412.9p per kg. Texel crosses topped the trade at 547.8p and £255 per head from Messrs Sowersby, Terrys Farm, Ormside. Hoggs (3716) sold to £252 and 442.3p for Beltex crosses from Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm, Penrith and Messrs Dawson, Mount Pleasant Farm, York respectively. Cast sheep sold to £295 for a pen of Texel ewes from Messrs Brannen, Scar Top, Penrith.
