DUMFRIES

AT C&D Auction Marts’ hoggs sold to £185 for Texels from David Sloan, Rigghead or 363pkg for Texels from the Roan family, Barnbarroch. Ewes averaged £186.87 having sold to £350 again from Rigghead. Rams averaged £156.50 with a top of £170 from Messrs Shennan, Craigbill.

On Monday, 80 beef cows averaged 287p having sold to 360p from Messrs Paterson, Hartbush and Messrs Mair, Meikleholm or to £ 2482 from Hartbush. Dairy cows averaged 224p, peaking at 290p and £2552 from Messrs Kincaid, Slacks. Bulls reached 250p and £2975 from Messrs Taylor, Fingland.

Clean cattle sold to 442p from Messrs Jardine, Yett or to £2482 for a Limousin from Hartbush.

An Aberdeen Angus led the bull trade at £2975 or 250p for Fingland.

NEWTON STEWART

Craig Wilson sold 1685 prime and cast sheep to average of 320p per kg or £137 per head. Top prices of 335p per kg or £165 were achieved for Texel hoggs from Robinson Wylie, Culbae. Cast ewes peaked at £168 for Charollais crosses from Barnean Farming Co with tups to £108 for Blackfaces from I McKnight, Dalhabboch.

THAINSTONE

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 628 sheep, feeding ewes and rams. Old season lambs (522) averaged 317p (+2p) having sold to 386p or £177.50 for 44kg Beltex from Loanend, Glenkindie. Ewes and rams (106) averaged £142.11 and sold to £250 for Texels from South Tarwathie, Strichen.

The 49 cast cows and bulls levelled at £2005.20 or 267p with finished beef cows (35) averaging £2149.57 having sold to £2790 for a 1000kg Limousin cross from Backley, Pitcaple. Feeding beef cows (10) averaged £1634 and sold to £1870 for a 712kg Simmental from Wester Coltfield, Kinloss and the three boning cows which levelled at £1256.66 sold to £1350 for a 592kg Simmental cross.

Amongst the clean cattle bullocks (26) sold to 369p twice, for a 700kg Limousin cross from Standingstones, Echt and a 755kg Simmental cross from Cottown, Rhynie, which also sold for the top price per head of £2785. Heifers (30) sold to 411p for a 550kg Limousin cross from Newcairn, Drumoak and £2665.15 for a 755kg Simmental cross from Wicker Inn Farm, Banchory.

STIRLING (CALLY)

Caledonian Marts sold 44 cattle, young bulls and 28 OTM’s. Heifers averaged 401.48p, selling to 450p for a Limousin from G McFadzean, Woodend of Mailer, or £3205 for a British Blue from Ross Brothers Wardhead. Bullocks levelled at 398.42p selling to 442p for a Limousin from Ross Brothers, Wardhead, or £2955 for a Limousin from J and N Kerr, Bankhead. Young bulls were topped at 358p for an Aberdeen Angus cross from WA Hume, Easter Clune and to £3048 for a Luing from A MacGregor, Allanfauld. OTM’s averaged 287.75 p selling to 410p and to £3025 for a British Blue from Ross Brothers.

STIRLING (UA)

United Auctions had forward 8043 sheep comprising 7003 old season lambs that averaged 321.46p and 1040 ewes and rams.

Hoggs sold to £200 twice for Beltex from Doune, or to 478p for Beltex from Groan. Ewes reached £280 for Texels from Cuilt Farmhouse, with rams to £300 for a Texel from South Flanders.

LONGTOWN

At C&D Auction Marts’ sale, some 6113 hoggs and 2927 cast ewes and rams were forward where hoggs averaged 333.5p having sold to 483p for Beltex from M and J Kennedy, Lurgan, or £225 for Texels from G Cakebread, Commonside. Cast ewes were topped at £350 for Texels from J Elliot, Roxburgh Mains. Rams reached £240 for Blueface Leicesters from J Reed, Knarr, Slaggyford.

Cast cows sold to 239p or £1517 for Galloways from Eskdalemuir Forestry, Clerkhill.

ST BOSWELLS

Harrison and Hetherington sold 62 cattle, 49 cast cows, 1225 hoggs and 743 sheep. Bullocks averaged 403p and sold to 436p for a Limousin from Messrs Dandie, Learielaw or to £3113.19 for a British Blue from the same home. Heifers levelled at 413p and peaked at 448p for a British Blue from Messrs Hamilton, Bee Edge. Heifers sold to £2965 for a Charolais from 19 Allen, Longnewton

Young bulls averaged 413p and sold to 418p or £2455.52 for a Limousin from the Huntington Partnership. Cast cows averaged 300p having sold to 385p for a Simmental from Sanderson, Graden or £3042 for another of the same from Lamont, Dunslaw. Bulls averaged 247p and sold to 277p or £3130.10 for an Aberdeen Angus from Fullerton, Corsbie.

Hoggs averaged 326p or £148 selling to £218 for Texels from Waite, Lamberton Holding or 385.7p for Beltex from Ross Farms, Wester Middleton.

Cast sheep averaged £161.56 and sold to £295 for a pure Texel from Messrs Green, The Craggs. Tups averaged £170, peaking at £256 for a Bluefaced Leicester from Messrs Sharp, Newbigging Walls.

AYR

Craig Wilson sold 3006 sheep on Monday where 2502 hoggs sold to £178 for a pair of Texels from Dianne Logan, Mauchline Road, or £390 for Beltex from Messrs Dunn, Martnaham Mains. Beltex from John Cowan, Brickrow topped the tup and the ewe trade at £250 and £235 respectively.

LANARK

Lawrie and Symington had 95 cattle comprising 35 bullocks and heifers and 60 cast cows at their sale where heifers sold to 450p or £2820 for Limousins from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie while bullocks peaked at £2853 or to 412p for a Limousin from Walkerdyke, Strathaven. Young bulls sold to £2434 for a Charolais cross from Mackiesmill. Beef cast cows peaked at £2510 or 340p from Greentowers, Lanark with dairy types to £2040 from Harvieston, Gorebridge or 282p from Auchmeddan, Lesmahagow. Bulls were topped at £2280 or 202p from Brownhill, Shotts.

Some 3482 hoggs averaged 332p selling to 418p for Beltex from Messrs Anderson, Oldwalls, or £193 for Beltex from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw. The 1065 cast sheep peaked at £270 for Texel ewes from Messrs Telfer, Glendouran with rams to £260 twice for Texels from Townhead and Suffolks from Dovecot.

CARLISLE

On Monday Harrison and Hetherington had forward 110 bulls which sold £3828 for an 870kg Limousin from Messrs Nimmo, Bogside or 456p for a 742kg Limousin cross from DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton. Steers sold to £3245.76 for an 882kg Limousin cross from Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas or 428p for a 753kg Limousin cross from Messrs Story, Newbiggin. Heifers were topped at £3061.38 for a 777kg Charolais cross from Messrs Cooper, Govals, Forfar, or 450p for a 630kg Limousin from Newbiggin. Cast cows averaged £2082, having sold to £3506 or 423.5p for an 828kg British Blue from G Scott, Gateside, Linlithgow. Stock bulls were topped at 357.5p or £4644 for a 1299kg Limousin from R Neill and Partners, Upper Nisbet.

Some 3503 hoggs averaged 337p, selling to 600p for Black Beltex from Barclay Fowlie, Aberdeen, or £245 for continental crosses from Messrs Moralee, Hexham. Ewes were topped at £340 for Texels from Little Orton with rams to £280 for a Charollais from Maxwell Farming Co, Dumfries. The 854 cast sheep averaged £167.33

DINGWALL

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 17 prime cattle with bullocks averaging 379.3p having sold to 406.0p for a 665kg Limousin cross from Bridgend, Dingwall, or £2794.60 for a 785kg Charolais cross from Bog of Auchterflow, Munlochy. Heifers averaged 388.2p, peaking at 414.0p and £2691.00 for a 650kg Limousin cross from Easter Strath, Killen.

CASTLE DOUGLAS

Some 2678 hoggs averaged 307.39p at Wallets Marts sale where a top price of 416.3p per kg was paid for Beltex from Messrs Craig, Compstonend or £183 for Texels from Messrs Dunlop, Ashfield.

Cast sheep sold to £232 for a Suffolk tup from Messrs Sturgess, Cullinaw.

PENRITH

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart’s sale of 2041 hoggs and 2754 cast ewes and rams saw the former average 338p selling to 436p for four Beltex, weighing 39kg, from Messrs W Gribbon, Waterside. Top price per head was £196 paid for a single Texel 62kg hogg from Messrs JH and MJ Jefferson, High Pow. Ewes averaged £169.80 selling to £345 from G Bell, Hass Side and H Mcrae, Shethin, Aberdeenshire.

DARLINGTON

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart had forward 188 cattle and 1475 sheep at their sale where 59 bulls averaged 397p or £2897 per head. Top price per kg of 449p was paid for a 737kg Limousin from AS and SM Kemp and Son, Heugh Hall, while a 1002kg Limousin from AC Simpson and Son, McNeil, sold for a top price per head of £3977.

Heifers levelled at 437p or £2623 with steers averaging 414p and £2759. A 563kg Limousin heifer from W Miller, High Aketon, Wigton, topped the section at 502p, while another weighing 776kg from P Langstaff, Dunn House, sold for £3538. Steers sold to 459p and £3699 for four Limousins from F and R Simpson, Square House.

Hoggs (1360) averaged £147.57 or 306p selling to 400p for a 40kg Beltex from WM Allison and Son, Quarry Works or £182 for Beltex from MH Hodgson, East Greystones. Cast ewes and rams (115) averaged £128.06, selling to £230 for pure Texel ewes from JP Floyd, Ugthorpe.

HAWES

Hawes Farmers Auction had forward 1380 hoggs, and 192 cast ewes and rams. Hoggs averaged 298.3p and sold to 410 for Beltex hoggs from BC Gregg, Ellingstring, or £184 for Texels from JR and LA Capstick, Killington. Cast ewes sold to £200 for Texel crosses and Beltex crosses from R Mudd and Sons, Cubeck with rams to £202 for Bluefaced Leicesters from WA Dinsdale and Son, Grinton.
