Pedigree bulls sold to a top of 13,000gns for the champion Simmental, Islavale Ringo, at the multi-breed show and sale at Thainstone on Wednesday.
The Stronach family of Berryleys, Keith, secured the a personal best at Thainstone, just fresh from topping the Simmental trade at 30,000gns at the Stirling Bull Sales.
Their Thainstone champion Islavale Ringo sold for 13,000gns to Walter and Valerie Leith, North Crannoch, Keith. March 2023-born son is by the Ex95-classified Coose Lincoln, a sire of sons to 20,000gns, and is out of Islavale Viva.
The reserve Simmental made 11,800gns for Michael Durno’s Auchorachan herd from Glenlivet. Auchorachan Reagen, a August 2024-born bull is from the first crop of calves by Hemingford Nelson, a sire which produced four sons to average £8500 at Stirling. Bred from Auchorachan Kay, an embryo daughter of Auchorachan ACDC, Reagan sold to Derek Bruce, Dorsell, Alford.
Heather Duff, Pitmudie, Menmuir, also achieved a personal best at Thainstone when she sold Pitmudie Rambo for 11,000gns. From the first crop of calves by the 5000gns Coolcran Maximus and out of Pitmudie Erica, was bought by Norman and Scott Innes, Cairnhill.
The same home sold Pitmudie Rooney for 7000gns to WLR Keir, Braemorlich, Alford. Rooney is sired by Auchorachan King Kong and bred from Pitmudie Lavender.
Three further Simmental bulls sold at 7000gns each. First was Glenlossie Roger, from Alexander Sutherland, Connachie, Elgin. This May 2024-born son of Redhill Fitzroy, was purchased by M Thomson, Ospisdale, Dornoch.
The remaining two 7000gns sales came from Gerald and Morag Smith, Drumsleed, Laurencekirk. The August 2024-born Drumsleed Rory, by Dellfield Kingpin, headed home with Alexander Far, Clunycrichton, Banchory.
Later, Drumsleed Randal, a Rockytop Lucifer son sold to J Watson, Overton, New Pitsligo.
Limousins
Limousins peaked at 12,000gns for Ronick Vampire from Ronald and Stephanie Dick, Mains of Throsk, Stirling. This April 2024-born bull is a son of Ronick Laddie – a bull bought back privately from Balfour Baillie – and bred from Ronick Noreen, from the Doreen family. Vampire was purchased by the Muir family, Honeyneuk, Maud.
The breed champion and supreme overall, Oddies Volcano, from Ashleigh Nelson and Darren Scott, Oldmoston, Oldmeldrum, made 11,000gns. The two-year-old is sired by Goldies Orinocco and out of Breconside Nouie, bought at the herd dispersal. He was knocked down to Duncan McCallum, Shoreton, Dingwall.
The reserve Limousin from Neil and Stuart Barclay, sold for 10,000gns to Anthony Kitson, Yorkshire. Dunveaden Varrich, bred by Reay MacKenzie, Thurso, was bought by the Barclays as a calf, and is sired by Harestone Pegasus. The March 2024-born bull is bred from the 24,000gns Glenrock Impulse.
At 9800gns, Bencraig Vosa, from Steven Mitchell, Ploveryards, Keith, sold to Duncan family of Farmlay Eggs, Strichen. Vosa is the first son sold by Gallery Stannis and bred from Bencraig Posy.
Two Limousin bulls sold for 8500gns each. Anside Vidal, an April 2024-born from the Irvine family, Braehead, Keith, is by Wilodge Cerberus and out of Anside Nala. He was purchased by J Boyne, Whinnyhaugh, Moray.
Knock Vanquish from the Howie family, West Knock, Peterhead, also made 8500gns. This two-year-old is sired by Allanfauld Nemesis and bred from Knock Maggie. He was knocked down to Willie Mackie, Whiteside, Alford.
Charolais
Just three of the nine Charolais entries found new homes which sold to 9500gns for the March 2023-born Foundland Vorsprung from the Reid family, Knockdhu, Ellon.
Sired by Newlogie Toyota and out of Foundland Rachel, Vorsprung sold to Newton Farms, Newton of Tulloch, Inverurie.
Neil and Stuart Barclay, South Insch, sold the other two bulls at 7000gns apiece. The first of these was the breed champion, Harestone Vancouver, an August 2024-born son of Harestone Romeo, a bull bought in France as a calf for €25,000.

Bred from Harestone Mayday, he was purchased by AR Strathdee, Langlandburn, Buckie.
The second from the Harestone camp was the similarly aged Harestone Virgil, another son of Harestone Romeo. Bred from Harestone Missy, he home with Andrew Campbell, 5 West Murkle, Thurso.
Aberdeen Angus
Blelack Hill Empire from Neil Calcott, Blelack, Dinnet, topped the Aberdeen Angus. The May 2024-born bull is a son of the herd’s first home-bred stock bull, Blelack Hill Blue Lightening, and was bred from Tonley Ester, bought at the Black Beauty Bonanza four years ago.
Two of just three Aberdeen Angus bulls forward sold for 7000gns and 4000gns respectively.
Ballindalloch Phoenix, from Ballindalloch Home Farms, Ballindalloch, was secured by Steven Eddie, Easttown, Glenbervie at 7000gns.
This May 2024-born bull is by Rosemead January, and out of Ballindalloch Pam.
British Blue
The sole British Blue bull, Uppermill True Blue from David McKerrow, Tarves, sold for 8200gns.
Born December 2023, he is sired by Solway View Monty and bred from Nochnary Ebony.
The buyer was DN Barclay, Tullo of Garvock, Laurencekirk.
