NEWTON STEWART

Craig Wilson sold 589 hoggs to average 330p having sold to £178 for Suffolks from Brian Vance, Mid Skeog, or 378p for Texels from the same home. Cast sheep reached £170 for Suffolk cross ewes from Over Airies, or £142 for Blue Texel tups from Cairnhouse.


DUMFRIES

At C&D Auction Marts’ sale, hoggs averaged 343.9p, selling to 406p for Herdwicks from Messrs Sloan, Upper Longbank or £188 for Suffolk tup hoggs from Messrs Harkness, Netherhall. The same home topped the cast ewes at £194 with Texels, while rams reached £265 from Maxwell Farming, Druidhall.

Cattle peaked at £2618 for an 850kg Aberdeen Angus cross cow from Messrs Richardson, Courstein or 345p from Messrs Bell, North Bowerhouses. Dairy cows sold to £2052.75 from Messrs Burgoyne, Shenrick, or 258p from Messrs Roan, Barnbarroch.


DINGWALL

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 770 old season lambs to average 329.3p with top prices of 386p paid for Beltex crosses from Greenlands, Arabella, and £200 for another of the same from 25 Camaultmuir, Kiltarlity. Feeding sheep (483) peaked at £275 for a Rouge ewe from 30 Ellis Park, Conon Bridge.


WOOLER

Harrison and Hetherington sold hoggs to average 343p and £160, with top prices of £200 paid for Texels from Murray and Partners, Shepherds Cottage and 390p for more of the same from Messrs Redpath, Berry Hill. Ewes and tups levelled at £115 and sold to £235 for Texels from W and J Waite, Summerskye.


PENRITH

Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart sold 2856 hoggs to a high of 485p from M Bindloss and Son, Shap Abbey, or £204 from TE Irving and Son. Cast ewes reached £355 for a pure Texel from Blair Duffton, Huntly with rams to £250 from M McNally.


STIRLING (UA)

United Auctions sold cast cows to a top of £3470 for a Limousin from Pittentian or 420.1p for a Charolais from Kaeside. OTM bulls reached £4040 and 300.6p for a Limousin from Muirhouses.

The 6910 old season lambs averaged 376.98p having sold to £235 and 534p for Beltex from Cuiltburn. Cast sheep sold to £268 for Texel ewes from Hill of Errol with rams to £342 for another of the same from Duntuim.

STIRLING (CALLY)

Bullocks averaged 406.32p at Caledonian Marts’ sale, having sold to 425p from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres and J and J Wyllie, Knockhouse and to £2876 for a Limousin from A G Baillie, Blackdub. Heifers averaged 409.69p, selling to 460p for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill and to £2985 for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston. OTM cattle averaged 294p and peaked at 410p for a Limousin from Ross Brothers, Wardhead and to £3200 for a British Blue from A Kennedy, Seggarsdean.

Dairy cows averaged 260.36p and reached 336p and £2240 from Balgreggan Farms, Stranraer.

On Tuesday, hoggs averaged 383p and £158, with top prices of 590p paid for a Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and £230 for Beltex from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing, Denny, and DS and RC Taylor. Cast ewes sold to £215 for a Texel from WHM Warnock, Gartfinnan, Clackmannan, with tups to £149 for a Blackface from A Rankin, Edentaggart, Glen Luss.


THAINSTONE

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 3899 old season lambs sell to average 361p with a top of 488.2p paid for 35kg Beltex from Westerton, Echt and £200 for 55kg Beltex crosses from South Blachrie, Fyvie. Feeding ewes and rams (1161) averaged £138.72 and sold to £340 for a pure Texel from Inchbruich, Cornhill.

Cattle sold to 417p for a Limousin cross from Pityot, Bridge of Muchalls and £2527.65 for another of the same breed from Home Farm, Longhaven. Pityot also topped the heifers at 419p and £2689.65 with Limousins.

Young bulls sold to 371p, for a Limousin cross, from Berrytop, Netherley and £3769.20 for a Charolais from Mormand Prop, New Pitsligo.

Beef cows averaged £2564.88, selling to £3300 for a Limousin cross from Glasslaw, Dunnottar. Bulls averaged £2731.11 and sold to £3410 for a Simmental from Glencuie, Glenkindie.


ST BOSWELLS

Harrison and Hetehrington sold bullocks to a top of £3284.95 for a Limousin from Messrs Clark, Wellheads, and to 440p for another of the same from Messrs Dandie, Learielaw. Wellheads also topped the heifers at £3061.80 with a Charolais, while Messrs Hamilton, Bee Edge took 462p, for a Limousin. Cast cows reached £3242.91 for a Limousin from Messrs Fleming, Greenlees, and to 377p for a Simmental from Pogbie Farms. A Limousin also topped the bull trade at £3359.15 and 301p from Messrs Fleming, Greenlees.

Hoggs averaged 371p and £162.50, hitting a high of £220 and 430p for Beltex from Faughhill Farming.

Cast sheep sold to £232 for a Texel ram from Messrs Fullerton, Corsbie, with ewes to £220 for a Texel from Birkett Farming, Hexpath.


LANARK

Lawrie and Symington had forward 95 cattle which saw heifers sell to £2841 or 448p for a Limousin from Brockwoodlees, Canonbie. Bullocks sold to 418p from Cassindilly Farm, Ceres with a Limousin. Dairy entries reached £2365 for Holsteins from Millhill and 298p from Westtown. Beef cows sold to £2870 or 336p from West Glespin, Lanark, with dairy types to £2040 from Westtown, or 275p from Letham Farm, Lesmahagow. Cast bulls reached £2700 from Nether Affleck, Lanark or 250p from Bents, West Calder.

The 5935 hoggs peaked at £230 for Texels from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, or 511p for Beltex from the same home.

Tups peaked at £385 for a Suffolk cross from Messrs Lammie, Longhouse, while a Texel ewe from Cowgrove sold to £325.


CARLISLE

Harrison and Hetherington sold bulls to £3902.08 for an 871kg Limousin cross from Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry, or 458p for a 17-month-old Limousin from Messrs Hutton, Setmabanning, Keswick. Dairy-bred types reached £2284.88 for a Friesian from Messrs Preston, Wed Holme House, or 346p for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs Dickinson, High House, Wigton. Clean cattle peaked at £3238.20, for a Limousin steer from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton, and at 438p from Messrs Rome, Niven Hill, Gretna. Heifers sold to £2700.88 and 424p for a Limousin from Messrs Craik, Waterside, Castle Douglas.

Ewes sold to £301 for Texels from DJ Harrison, Dundraw, Wigton. Beltex hoggs realised £220 from Messrs Wharton, The Snade, Dumfries, and to £500 for a Dutch Texel from Messrs Fisher, Lairdlaugh, Castle Douglas. Cast ewes and rams sold to a high of £301 for a Texel from Dundraw.


DARLINGTON

Darlington Farmers Auction sold bulls (51) to 448p for a 789kg Limousin from J Layfield, Nackshivan and to £4161 for a British Blonde from JJ Horn. Clean Cattle (142) peaked at 494p twice for a Limousin heifer from S and JE Andrew, Letter Farm, Loch of Lowes, Perthshire and for a Limousin from WJ and AS Bowes and Sons, Stainton Hill House. The Perthshire outfit also topped the price per head at £3627, along with the leading steer price at 476p and £3448.

Hoggs (1610) sold to a high of 455p and £230 for Rouge crosses from IE and AC Teasdale, High Farm, with the same home topping the cast ewe trade at £274.


HAWES

Hawes Farmers Auction saw trade peak at 440p for a pair of Beltex hoggs from T Richardson, Hawes, who also topped the market at £181 with a 45kg Beltex hogg. Cast ewes topped at £208 for a Suffolk from A and H Watson. Cast rams sold to £205 for Texels from T Metcalfe and Son, Muker.


AYR

Craig Wilson sold 2822 hoggs to average 366p or £164 per head with top prices of £218 for Texels from Messrs Campbell, Crawlaw and 435p for Texels from Messrs Robb, Chalmerston. Ewes reached £252 for a Charollais from R and J Andrew, Rowanston, with rams to £188 for a Texel from John Seton, Hemphill.

On Tuesday, 16 heifers averaged 410.66p selling to 442p for a Limousin from The Smith Family at North Boig and £2250 twice for Limousins from Glanderston. Bulls peaked at £2520 for a Charolais from Fisherton. Cows reached £2500 for an Aberdeen Angus from Lochhill.


QUOYBRAE

Aberdeen and Northern Marts saw hoggs average 373.5p or with a top of 441.7p for 42kg Beltex from West Brims, Forss, and £210 for the same from Cruithni, Tofts. Feeding sheep levelled at £133.64 and peaked at £330 for a Texel from Durran Mains, Cadtletown.


HUNTLY

United Auctions sold old season lambs averaging 348p with a top of 424p for 37kg Beltex from Craigieview, Aberchirder or £200 for Texels from both Wedderburn, Huntly and Haughs, Ballindalloch. Ewes peaked at £280 for a pure Texel from Tillyminate, Gartly.


CASTLE DOUGLAS

Wallets Marts sold 1301 hoggs to average 369.4p. Top prices were £200 for Blue Texels from Messrs Forsyth, Corra and 461.9p for Beltex from Messrs Kerr, Denty. Cast sheep (268) sold to £235 for Texels ewes from Messrs Baird, Potterland.


KIRKBY STEPHEN

Harrison and Hetherington had 30 head forward at their weekly cast and OTM cattle sale, where a Limousin bull topped the sale at £4012.02 from Messrs Batty, Dry Evers Cottage, Maulds Meaburn. Topping the ppk at 425.5 was a British Blue cow from Messrs Alderson, Howgill Grange.


HEXHAM

Hexham & Northern Marts sold 827 cast ewes and tups to a top of £315 for a Texel ewe from West Stobswood, while tups sold to £295 for a Bluefaced Leicester from F T Walton, Flotterton.
