A top price of 3800gns was achieved twice at Ian and Liz Burgoyn’s dispersal of the Shenrick Pro-Cross dairy herd from Crocketford.

The sale, staged at Carlisle comprised a herd that goes back to British Friesian and Holstein genetics. Montbeliarde genetics were first used in the early 2000s, followed by Norwegian Red.

First to reach 3800gns was a fourth calver giving just short of 50kg. She is sired by the Swedish Red, VR Vimo, and out of a Montbeliarde dam sired by Maserati.

Next was a Fleckvieh-bred cow in her third lactation. Sired by Wildnis and bred from a Holstein dam sired by Sahara Baloo, she sold giving 42kg and due to a Limousin in April.

Milking heifers were topped at 3700gns for Flora, sired by Augustus Red and bred from a Norwegian Red dam. She calved in November and is due again to the Montbeliarde sire Trader in December.

Several heifers sold for 3600gns, including Janice, freshly calved in June and sired by the Swedish Red sire Hakin and bred from a Montbeliarde dam.

In-calf heifers were topped at 3400gns for a polled heifer due in November to an Angus. She is sired by Delta Drone and bred from a Montbeliarde.

Averages: 80 cows in milk, £2849.44; 27 heifers in milk, £3243.33; four in-calf heifers, £3123.75 (calving October to November); 111 Pro-cross, £2955.13.
