Wormanby and Boclair heifers share 3700gns top at Borderway

Brownfield youngstock – 30 bulling heifers, £1848.00; 35 yearling heifers, £1498.50; 30 heifer calves, £849.72.

Trade peaked at 3700gns on three occasions at a Pedigree Dairy show and sale at Carlisle which included an Elite sale of embryos and youngstock from Matthew Gemmell’s Dumfriesshire-based brownfield herd.

First to reach that price was the pre-show champion, Wormanby Conway Gloriette, a Sandy-Valley Conway daughter from the Hodgson family, Carlisle. Bred from eight generations of Excellent or VG-classifed cows, she is out of a ninth lactation cow with more than 110 tonnes lifetime production.

Wormanby Has It All Rose, by Duckett Has It All, from the same home also made 3700gns. She is bred from five generations of VG or Ex dams, all with strong lifetime yields.

Completing the trio at 3700gns was Boclair Pursuit Gypsy 3 from David and John Brewster, Boclair, Glasgow. Sired by Pine-Tree Pursuit, she completes four generations of Ex or VG cows, with both her dam and grand dam recording lactations of more than 16,000kg.

A further three heifers sold at 3550gns, including two from Skirwith Hall Farms, Penrith – Stowbeck Lock Mavis 2, a Sheland Parfect Lock daughter, and Stowbeck Twilight Lulu, by Aprilday Twilight-Red.

Also at 3550gns was Bankview Rubicon Lady 3 VG85, a two-year-old by Edg Rubicon from the Walton family, Kirkby Stephen.

The sale also featured an elite selection of embryos from several world-renowned Holstein cows. These were topped at 1300gns for embryos from Siemers Lmda Paris by Tentastic, with the resulting heifers being sisters to Parfect and Pazzle.

In-calf heifers from Richard Carlile, Longtown, were topped twice at 2550gns and averaged £2520.

Youngstock from the Brownfield herd peaked at 2300gns for Brownfield Raiton Gwen, by Lars-Acres Raiton. Her Mecca P dam has records of 5.77%BF and 3.91%P.

Averages: 95 heifers in milk, £3158.65; six cows in milk, £2660.00; four faulted cows, £1968.75; three in-calf heifers, £2520.00; 46 embryos, £583.33.
