The National Beef Expo returned after a long anticipated three years, and what a day it was for Luke and Beth Wilkinson, who landed the supreme.

Their March 2021 home-bred Limousin cross heifer, Maggie crossed the weigh bridge at 567kg. Having stood baby beef champion at the English Winter Fair last year, she is now destined for the Great Yorkshire Show.

Judge, Dafydd Lewis, Pentwyn, Wales, commented: "As soon as I saw her in the ring I knew she was my champion, there is only one thing wrong with her, she isn't mine!"

Following her all day, having been placed second in the same class, was Stewart and Lynsey Bett's Sexy Spice. Having already won the spring show and champions of champions at Ayr Show, this 11-month-old 544kg Limousin cross is set for a big summer.

"They are two excellent heifers with very little in it, it has been an honour to judge this event with such a high quality of cattle forward," added Mr Lewis.
