Steers and heifers cashed in at £1083 (+£17) and £1056 (+£72) respectively at Darlington Farmers Auction Marts’ New Year show and sale of store cattle, where the champion, a British Blue cross steer from the Stones family of Nun Cote Nook, Marrick, topped the trade at £1800.

The reserve, a Limousin heifer from S and J Dent and Son, Darlington, later topped her section selling for £1530.

Breeding cattle were topped by an Aberdeen-Angus heifer with Limousin calf at foot from PRE Marwood, Huller Bush, when selling for £2500.

Store sheep sold to £104 for a pair of Beltex hoggs from D and M Lowes, Barningham.
