Aberdeenshire beef enthusiast Blair Duffton, Huntly, made his presence felt at a sale of show potential calves at Brecon, buying two of the top priced lots at £6450 and £5600.
Dearest was the eight-month-old British Blue cross heifer, Blue Velvet, from JR Joseph, Brecon. It is bred from a pedigree Limousin cow.
Mr Duffton then went to £5600 for the 10-month-old Limousin cross British Blue heifer, Brandy, from the Davies family, Llwynpiod, Builth Wells.
Top price was £6700, paid for the steer champion and reserve overall from Paul Walker, Stafford.
This nine-month-old British Blue cross is out of a Limousin cow that had been reserve female champion at the last Smithfield show at the Royal Showground. The black steer sold to R Naylor, Ashbourne.
Leading the heifer trade at £6500 was the reserve champion, All Eyes On Me, a similarly aged British Blue cross from Messrs Cheacker, Bristol, purchased by Will Ketley, Colchester.
Averages: 18 steers, £3711.36; 24 heifers, £3013.89
