A 22-month-old black Limousin cross heifer from Five Houses, Hutton Rudby, was selected champion and sold for the top price of £3350 at the Mid-March Extravaganza show and sale of store cattle at Darlington Farmers Auction Mart.

Judge Nathan Grainger, Glasson, found his reserve in a 10-month-old British Blue heifer from T Ducker, Coppice House Farm, Sheffield which later sold for £2390.

The 540 cattle forward saw cast entries peak at 420p per kg or £4170, paid for a pedigree British Blue cow weighing 993kg from BJ Haigh, Hightown, with an OTM Blue heifer from Five Houses making 406p or £3252

Store cattle saw young bulls, heifers and steers average £1818, £1851 and £1864 respectively. The former peaked at £2460 from DW Humphrey, Capon Hall.
