NEWTON STEWART

Craig Wilson sold 369 prime and cast sheep, with a pen of Beltex hoggs from T Hamilton, Kilumpha, topping the sale at £210 with a top of 415p going to Texels from W Gemmell and Son, Holm, Kirkcowan. J Galloway Farming, Moorpark of Baldoon, topped the cast sheep with Suffolk cross ewes at £188.


DUMFRIES

C&D Auction Marts sold hoggs to an average of 394.27p and to a top of 424p for Cheviots from Messrs Sloan, Rigghead and to £210 for Charollais from the same home. The Sloans also dominated the cast sheep selling a Charollais ewe at £230.


DINGWALL

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 712 old season lambs to average 386.2p and sold to 418.0p for a pen of 44.5kg Beltex crosses from Kinchyle Farm, Scaniport, and £214 for a pen of 71kg Texel crosses from Druid Temple Farm, Inverness. Feeding Sheep (418) sold to £292 for a Texel ewe from Lower Seafield, Portmahomack.


LONGTOWN

C&D Auction Marts had forward some 5767 hoggs and 2980 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale. Hoggs topped at £270 for Texels from Roxburgh Mains and to 565.2p for Texels from Marbrack. Cast sheep reached £330 for Texel ewes consigned by Beckfoot Farms and RJ Burgess, The Bush, Hightae. Cast cows topped at £2468 for a Limousin from H Graham, Holme House, Walton and to 296p for a Friesian from CT and J Wigham, Hethermill, Kirklinton.


STIRLING (UA)

United Auctions sold young bulls to a top of £2060 for a Charolais from Cleddans and to 437.50p for a Beef Shorthorn from Craigeassie. Cast cattle reached £3240 for a Limousin cow from Buteland and to 369.80p for an Aberdeen Angus cow from Bemersyde. Some 9712 sheep comprising four new season lambs sold to an average of 405.58p, 8342 old season lambs selling to an average of 398.65p, and 1366 ewes and rams. New season lambs peaked at 420p or £214 for Zwartbles from Greystone Cottage. Old season lambs sold to a top of 553p for Beltex off Cuiltburn and to £248 for Texels from Elsmcelugh. Texel ewes from West Carse and Allanfauld sold to a top of £320.00.


STIRLING (CALLY)

Caledonian Marts saw heifers averaged 406.66p, selling to 455p or £2776 for a Limousin from Ross Brothers, Wardhead, Strichen.Continued from Page 33 Bullocks averaged 396p selling to 428p, again for a Limousin from Wardhead, and to £3176 for a British Blue from the same home. OTM’s averaged 271.53p, selling to 306p for a Luing from W Hunter, East Forth and to £2700 for a Simmental from J Brown, Greencraig. Hoggs averaged 400p and £178, with a top of 512p for a Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill and to £242 for a Beltex from S and JE Andrew, Letter, Loch of Lowes. Cast sheep sold to £309 for a Texel from R and J Kinnaird, Findatie, Scotlandwell.


THAINSTONE

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 31 bullocks to 384p for a 710kg Limousin cross from Kincairn House, Kirkton of Rayne, and £2857.40 for an 785kg Charolais cross from Largue, Forgue. Heifers (40) sold to 417p for a 565kg Limousin cross from Cairness, Fraserburgh and £2881 for an 860kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Netherton, Aberlour. Cast cows sold to £3200 for a 1062kg Simmental cross from Culhay, Forbes whilst bulls peaked at £4200 for a 1290kg Limousin from Cairness, Fraserburgh. Some 4872 old season lambs forward averaged 394p and sold to 487p for 41kg Beltex from Netherhill, St Fergus and £232 for 56kg Beltex crosses from Shoreton, Culbokie.


ST BOSWELLS

Harrison and Hetherington sold 1988 hoggs to average 410p (+10p) or £185 per and sold to £251 for Beltex Hoggs from Faughhill Farming and to 463p for more of the same from Messrs Fleming, Anvil. Ewes (206) averaged £1646 and reached a high of £300 for a Texel ewe from D Gray, Sunnycroft. Bullocks levelled at 372p and reached £3034 or 426p (-10p) for a Limousin from Messrs Dandie, Learielaw. Heifers averaged 390p per kg and sold to £2892.56 for a Limousin from Messrs Allen, Longnewton and to 462p (-15p), again for a Limousin, this time from Messrs Hamilton, Bee Edge. Young bulls averaged 379p and sold to £2130.72 or 392p for a Limousin from Messrs Hamilton, Ramrig. Cast cows averaged 306p and sold to a top of £2990 or 339p (n/c) for a Simmental from J Jeffrey, Kersknowe.


CARLISLE

Harrison and Hetherington saw bulls sell to an average of £2479.59 and topping at £3933.32 for a 919kg Limousin from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith. Some 101 steers and heifers forward with steers topping at £2998 for a 785kg Limousin cross from Messrs Story, Newbiggin, Carlisle. Top pence per kg was 412p for a 621kg Limousin cross from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton. Heifers peaked at £2986.20 for a 790kg Limousin cross, again from Messrs Story, with a top of 416p being paid for a 690kg, 22-month-old Limousin cross from Messrs Wilson, Petteril Hill. Cast cows from Gavin Scott, Gateside, Linlithgow topped at 407.5p or £3553 for an 823kgs nine-year-old Limousin cross cow, while dairy cows reached 303.5p or £2637 for a seven-year-old Flechvieh cross cow, weighing 869kgs, from Messrs Rogerson and Son, Ward Park. A 1181kg Limousin bulls sold to 339.5p or £4009 from Airyolland, Ewes were up to £400, paid for Texels from Messrs Leonard, Pettigo whilst Beltex topped the hogg trade at 575p for 40kg Texels from Lairdlaugh.


LANARK

Lawrie and Symington sold Simmental heifers to £2884 from Skirling Craigs Farm or to 448p from Brockwoodlees. Limousin Bullocks sold to a high of £3037 or 415p from The Gill Farm, Strathaven. Young bulls hit £2694 for a Shorthorn from Carlinside and to 340p for a Charolais from Harvieston. Cast cattle sold to £2390 from Easter Hassockrigg, Harthill or to 359p from Wester Whitecastle, Biggar. Some 2417 hoggs were forward and peaked at £244 and 533p for Beltex from T and A Taylor, Heatheryhall. Ewes and rams peaked at £355 for Texels from Messrs Gray, Langside.


AYR

Craig Wilson sold 206 cast sheep and 1941 prime hoggs with a whole sale average of 398p or £178. The top price of £222 or 505p went to J Thomson from Blairbowie for a pen of four Blue Texel’s. Ewes and rams sold to £282 for a Beltex ewe from J and C Hodge, Ploughlands. On Tuesday Craig Wilson sold heifers to an average of 407.3p or £2374.54, selling to a top of 428p for a Limousin from The Smith Family at North Boig. HUNTLY United Auctions Huntly sold 1875 old season lambs (1875) to an average of 378p and sold to 457p for 46kg Beltex from The Knowes, Deskford and to £245 for 118kg Suffolk from Auchnarrow, Glenlivet. Cast sheep topped at £350 for a pure texel ewe from North Dorlaithers, Turriff.


CASTLE DOUGLAS

Wallets Marts sold 22 OTM cattle, which topped at £2517.90 and 341p for an Angus heifer from Messrs Graham, Irelandton. Cow sold to £2251.48 for an Angus from Messrs Davidson, Poldean, while an Angus bull from Glenroan peaked at £2256. Hoggs averaged 380.98p, with a top of £250 for a Rouge cross Texel from Struan and Sophie Kerr, Denty and 413p for Texels from Messrs Grierson, Sandfield. Cast sheep sold to a top of £192 for Texels from Messrs Locke, Park of Tongland.
