A Limousin bull, Redesdale Vulcan, topped Hexham Marts’ breeding show and sale when selling for 8000gns. The son of the 14,000gns Haltcliffe Topgun was exhibited by the Carruthers family, Silloans, Otterburn, and was knocked down to G and E A Herdman, Luns House.
Second top price of 6500gns was paid for the inter-breed champion, Tweeddale Venables, the Limousin winner from J Watson and Co, Bowsden Moor. He is by Lukeroyal Robin.
Standing reserve overall and achieving the next best price of 6000gns was the sole British Blue entry, Tweeddale Uppercrust. This Gass Okay son also came from the Bowsden Moor herd.
In the Angus section, the first-prize winner, Kirkley Hall Eli, by Wedderlie Fortitude, was exhibited by students from Kirkley Hall College and sold for 5500gns.

Herefords peaked at 4000gns for Auckvale 1 Bolder from W and R Kemp, Wigdon Walls.
In the female section, trade topped at £5400 for the overall champion, a Limousin cross heifer shown with her month-old Limousin cross heifer calf at foot from R King and Son, Gospel Hall. The outfit was purchased by the judges, suckled calf producers John and Alan Walton, Farnbury.
A small entry of bulling heifers sold to a top of £2650 on three occasions for Limousins from W and N Knaggs and Son, East Newbiggin.
Mitchells also conducted the opening phase of the Low Middleton Livestock dispersal, where a strong run of three-quarter-bred beef heifers, cows and calves met a solid trade. Top call was £5200 for a British Blue cross heifer with her Limousin cross steer calf at foot, sired by Swarland Nobby.
