Newton Stewart

Craig Wilson had 521 sheep forward at their sale which saw 382 lambs average 443.2p per kg or £199 per head having sold to £232 for a Texel from T McKinnel, Drumneil. Hoggs were topped at £152 for Blackfaces from Dalreoch Estate. Cast ewes sold to £182 for a Suffolk cross from Barholm Mains.


Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 128 head of cattle at their sale where 30 bullocks averaged 325.3p per kg having sold to 387p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Whiteside, Tullynessle, and £2620.15 for a 650kg Limousin cross from Pityot, Bridge of Muchalls. The 63 heifers cashed in at 343.4p selling to 414p for a 610kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Glasslaw, Dunnottar and for a 670kg Limousin from Culfork, Alford which also secured the lead gross price of £2773.80. Young bulls (35) averaged 309.8p and sold to 349p for a 580kg British Blue cross from Westerton, Echt or £3322.90 for a 1010kg Limousin from Darrahill, Udny.

New season lambs (331) averaged 469p having sold to 540p and £270 for Texels from Milltown of Birness. Old season lambs (918) levelled at 397.3p with top prices of 509.3p and £310 paid for 54kg and 71kg Beltex respectively, from Muiryfold Farmhouse, Grange.


Stirling (Cally)

Caledonian Marts heifers averaged 370p per kg selling to 420p for a Limousin from Monzie Farms, and £2637 for another of the same from T Taylor, Heatheryhall. Bullocks averaged 344p with top prices of 380p and £2628 for Limousins from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres and J and J Rearie, Riggs, respectively. A British Blue from G and J Davie, Harviesmailing led the young bulls at 378p and £2487

On Tuesday, lambs averaged 456p peaking at 558p for a Beltex from PG Perring, Hoprig and £248 for a Suffolk from HT Shanks, Easter Cash. Cast ewes reached £211 for a Texel from Hoprig.

Stirling (UA)

United Auctions sold 1309 lambs to average 467.32p per kg and 1969 hoggs at 381.81p per kg. New season entries peaked at £242 for Texels from Wester Rottearns and 600p for Beltex from Easter Ochtermuthill. Old season types were topped at £255 for Texels from West Balgothrie and 459pfor a Beltex from Ashfield. Ewes were topped at £340 for Texels from Elmscleugh.


Huntly (UA)

United Auctions sold 158 lambs to average 446.5p with a top of 506p paid for Beltex from Maryhill Croft, Forglen and £270 for 65kg Texel from North Dorlaithers, Turriff. Old season lambs (325) averaged 350p having sold to 437p for a 43kg continental cross from Davmor Croft, Keith and £272 for a 76kg Texel cross from Mains of Paithnick, Grange. Ewes (404) peaked at £275 for a Texel from Dunscroft, Huntly.


Ayr

Craig Wilson sold 1074 sheep on Monday, where 539 spring lambs averaged 462.37p per kg or £202.47 per head. Top prices were £227 paid for a Beltex from Messrs Aitkenhead and 514p for a Beltex from Messrs Redding. Hoggs (309) were topped at 420p for a Blue Texel from Messrs Eskechraggan and £217 for a Texel from Messrs Glenstables. Cast sheep reached £240 for a Beltex from Dallars Mains.


St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington sold 978 lambs to average 491.5p or £214 per head having sold to £298 for Texels from Legars and 543.8p for a Beltex from Whitsome. The 260 hoggs levelled at 410p or £210 peaking at £288 and 484p for a Texel from Anvil. Cast sheep (459) averaged £174 having sold to £330 for a Suffolk ram from Hoprigshiels, with ewes to £290 for Charollais from Runningburn.


Carlisle

Harrison and Hetherington sold 118 bulls to a high of £4139 or 438p per kg for a 945kg Limousin from Messrs Neill, Upper Nisbet, Jedburgh. The 96 heifers and steers forward reached £2641 and 420p for a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith.

Lambs (555) averaged 473p or £204, selling to 534.5p for a Dutch Spotted from Tundergarth Mains, or £274 for a Texel from C Martin, Boggle Hall. Hoggs averaged 351p and were topped at £272 by a Texel from Ellonby Hall and 504p for a Beltex from the same home. Cast sheep (304) averaged £159, selling to £256 for a Texel from Boggle Hall.


Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart sold 302 cattle and 1311 sheep. Bulls (70) sold to 404p per kg or £3457 for a Charolais from WA Wardman with 144 heifers reaching 449p from W Miller and £2928 from WJ Scott.

Some 909 spring lambs averaged 489p per kg or £218.6 per head selling to 585p for continentals from JC Simpson, Hill Top East and £275 from SC Brown. The 291 hoggs sold to 490p for 50kg Texels from R Atkinson, High Greenbury and £258 for 70kg Texels from PJ Tindale, Preston Tilery.


Lanark

Lawrie and Symington sold some 40 bullocks and heifers, with the latter selling to £2755 or 430p per kg for a Limousin. Bullocks were topped at £2145 a head for an Aberdeen Angus from West Backs and 412p per kg for a Limousin cross from Woodhead Farm.

Some 493 lambs averaged 456p, selling to £260 for a Texel from Messrs Wilkins, Wester Whitecastle and 522p for another of the same from Messrs Gibson, Cowgrove. The 1109 hoggs levelled at 353p peaking at £275 for a Texel from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw and 426p per kg for a Beltex from Messrs Taylor, Southholm. Cast ewes (1300) reached £300 for Texels from Cowgrove.
