Mitchells sale sees champion heifer top trade at £3413

The champions at Cockermouth’s Lake District prime show and sale led the trade, with the winning heifer selling for £3413.20 and the lead sheep at £450.

The 743kg Limousin heifer from Tim Pearson, High Plaskett Lands, sold for 460p to top the section with the reserve champion, a 677kg heifer of the same breed from the Crichton family at Loughrigg, selling for 458p or £3054.86.

Loughrigg also topped the steers at 422p with a Limousin, while the top price per head of £3248.70 was paid for a Limousin from Lesson Hall.

Bulls peaked at £2707.76 for a Limousin from Beechcroft and 394p for a Blonde from Fell End.

Cast cows reached £2608.32 for a Limousin from Stargill, with another of the same from Woodhall Brow making 357.5p.

A Millennium Blue from JJ Crichton, Loughrigg, was champion amongst the sheep and sold for £450 or 1022.7p to top both criteria.

The reserve, Texels from Messrs Cranston, Croftlands, sold for £390 and 735.8p.

Cast ewes realised £360 for Texels from Highfield House, while rams topped at £280 for Blue Texels from Aggra Yeat.
