NEWTON STEWART

Craig Wilson sold 258 lambs, which averaged 303p and peaked at £161 for Texels from WM Hutchinson and Low Mains, and at 323p for Charollais Lambs from Barnean Farming Co.

Ewes topped at £142 for Suffolks from High Ersock.


DUMFRIES

C&D Auction Marts recorded an average of 331.3p for lambs with a top price of £177 and 357p for Texels from Messrs Ewart, Belridding. Cast ewes peaked at £242 for a Texel from Woodcroft.

On Monday the company sold OTM and prime cattle to a top of £2717 for a Simmental from Little Gladenoch and to 338p for a Limousin from Calhame. Dairy cows reached £1874.80 for a Holstein from Smallholmburn and 312p for a Norwegian Red from Grains.

Bulls topped at £3060 from Boreland of Southwick and 268p for an Aberdeen Angus from Linns.


DINGWALL

Dingwall & Highland Marts sold new season lambs to 353p for a pair of Beltex crosses from Upper Blairnain, Aberlour and to £178 for a Suffolk cross from the same home. Feeding sheep grossed at £214 for a Cheviot Mule, again from Upper Blairnain.


PENRITH

Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart sold 1437 lambs, 302 lightweight collections of hoggs and lambs, and 3146 cast ewes and rams. The sale incorporated the mart's annual young handlers competition, judged by Joanne Hall, Inglewood Edge. The championship went to Sam Pollock, Wreay Hall, whose lamb sold for the top price of 465p, weighing 43kg and achieving £200. The top price per head was £222 for a 78kg lamb from G Pyman, Park View.

Cast ewes met a centre record of £395 for a pair of pure Texels from Messrs Moir, Home Farm, Aberdeenshire. Cast rams topped at £290 for a pure Zwartble from P Rodgers.


COCKERMOUTH

G and A Crayston, Thornholme topped Mitchells auctions cast cow trade with a Charolais selling for £2898.84 or 348p. Dairy cows topped with a Holstein making 292p from JD Hetherington, Blue Dial, with the top gross £2207.04 for another Holstein from Tallentire.

Prime bulls reached 330p for a Charolais from G and I Carruthers and Son, Lowca Cottage and to £1952 for a Holstein from the same home.

Cast ewes peaked at £310 for a pure Texel from E Stamper, Winston Terrace, while cast rams sold to £230 for a Texel from Lake View.

JJ Crichton, Loughrigg, topped the prime lambs with a Beltex making £237, while Messrs Sharp, Holmecroft, topped the pence per kilo at 500p, again for a Beltex. The overall average was 366.19p.


LONGTOWN

C&D Auctions saw some 1916 prime lambs average 359.53p and sell to a top of £300 or 638.3p for Dutch Spotted lambs from E Craig, Glenhowan. Ewes peaked at £370 for a Texel from WS Robson and Co, Yatesfield, with rams selling to £320 for a Suffolk from Beckfoot Farms.


STIRLING (UA)

United Auctions prime sale on Thursday included the Scottish Texel Breeders Club show of prime lambs.

Judged by W Shearer, Burnbrae, the champion pen of five from GD MacDonald and son, Meadows of Ballied sold for £204, with the reserve pen from the same home, reaching £194.

LEADING awards – up to 45kg – 1, JM Meikle, Dalvey; 2, MS Sands Ltd, Milton; 3, G Baird, West Whitefield. Over 45.1kg – 1 and champion, GD MacDonald and Son; 2 and reserve,

GD MacDonald and Son; dows of Ballie; 3, A and R Paton, Easter Greenhill.

New season lambs averaged 343.84p, selling to a top of £210 for Suffolks from Little Balquhomrie and to 433p for Beltex from Easterton. Ewes peaked at £300 for Suffolks from North Inchmichael, with rams to £275 for a Hampshire from Fintalich.

OTM cows sold to £2690 for an Aberdeen Angus off Bonnington and to 349.30p for a British Blue from Strathnafanaig. Bulls peaked at £3370 for a Charolais from Nether Falla and to 327.50p for a Shorthorn from Pitkindie.


STIRLING (CALLY)

Caledonian Marts sold prime heifers to an average of 368p, selling to 425p for a Limousin from WM Pettigrew, Faskine and to £2772 for a British Blue from Ross Brothers, Wardhead, Strichen. Wardhead also topped the bullocks, selling to 402p, on two occasions for Limousins and to £2995 for an Aberdeen Angus. Bullocks averaged 356p.

Young bulls levelled at 330p, selling to 338p for a Stabiliser from W Robertson and Son, Nether Fordoun and to £2370 for a Luing from the same home.

OTM Cattle averaged 260p, peaking at 290p for a British Blue from R and J Lines, Killocraw, Campbeltown and to £2480 for another of the same from W and M Wylie, Broompark.

Cast males rose to 256p and £2950 for a Charolais from J Mclaren and Son, Murrayshall, with black and whites to 262p and £1700 from R Campbell, Meikle Seggie.

Prime Lambs averaged 321p, selling to 429p for a Beltex from D Nicol, Auchtenny and to £210 for a pair of Beltex from the same home. Ewes peaked at £269 for a Texel from PG Perring, Hoprig, while tups sold to £244 for a Suffolk from Muirdean Farms, Highholm.


THAINSTONE

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 98 bullocks to average 334.6p and to a top of 391p for a Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle and £2743.40 for a Charolais cross from Muldearie Mains, Keith. Heifers (23) averaged 360.9p and sold to 397p for a Limousin cross from Sheep Park, Bridge of Marnoch and £3635.30 for a Limousin cross from Whitehaugh, Burnhervie. Young bulls (31) averaged 338.5p and peaked at 374p for a Charolais from Mains of Elrick, Auchnagatt and £2878.20 for a Limousin cross from Home Farm Cairness, Fraserburgh.

New season lambs (656) averaged 343.4p and sold to 434.1p for Beltex from Birkenbower, Lumsden and £200 for Beltex from Bogiefeulach, Tornaveen. Feeding ewes and rams (522) averaged £159.81 and peaked at £380 for a pure Texel from Skelbister, Orphir.

Beef finished cows (49) averaged £2304.59 and sold to £2970 for a British Blue cross from Sebay View, Tankerness. Feeding cows (88) averaged £1904.77 and topped at £2740 for a Limousin cross from Sebay View. Boning cows (8) averaged £1023.75 and reached £1410 for an Aberdeen Angus cross. Dairy cows (3) averaged £1488.33 and peaked at £1665 for a British Friesian from Holmview, Setter Farm. Bulls (9) averaged £2545.55 and hit £3040 for a Limousin from West Cruichie, Drumblade


DARLINGTON

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart sold 77 cast cows to average 257p and £1786, selling to 398p and £3570 for a Belgian Blue from D Alderson, Bowl Turner. Bulls peaked at 388p from TW and G Corner. Feeding ewes averaged £145.02, selling to £238 for a Texel cross from AWSM Farms.


HAWES

Hawes Farmers Auction Mart sold 1047 lambs to an overall market average of 315p, peaking at £216 for a consignment of Suffolks from DA and MA Brown and Son, Leyburn, and to 395p for Beltex from R Mudd and Sons, Cubeck. Ewes met a top of £200 for Texels from AL Dawes, Colsterdale, while rams hit £178 for a Texel from JM and DE Wood, Horton-in-Ribblesdale.


ST BOSWELLS

Harrison and Hetherington sold prime lambs to an average of 362p and to a top price of 410.9p for Beltex from Messrs Anderson, Headshaw. Legars topped the cast ewe trade with a Texel at £322. The whole sale average was £154.88. Tups peaked at £242 for Suffolks from Messrs Fullerton.


LANARK

Prime cattle peaked at £2696 and 430p at Lawrie and Symington’s sale for a Limousin heifer from Brockwoodlees. Bullocks reached £2577 for a Simmental from Bogside and 378p for a Limousin from Bushelhead. Young Bulls sold to £2208 from Gowmacmorran or to 318p from The Gair.

Cast cows sold to £2370 from Letham, or to 310p from Headsmuir. Dairy cows peaked at £1840 or 278p from Letham, while cast bulls reached £2200 or 196p from East Mains of Ballencrieff.

Some 2002 prime lambs averaged 331p and topped at £218 for Texels from Greenshields Farm and to 458p for Beltex from Yeldabrek.

Cast ewes and rams met an overall average of £135.15 and reached £290 for Texel ewes from Dawn Cottage, Orkney and to £140 for Blackface from Blackpark Farms. Rams topped at £280 for a Texel from Wester Mosshat.


CARLISLE

On Monday Harrison Hetherington sold a Limousin bull from Messrs DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton to £3532.14 and to 422p from the same home. Dairy-bred bulls peaked at £2267.46 and 342p for a Friesian from Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan. A Charolais cross steer sold to £2938.68 from Messrs Harrison, Aldermanseat, Gretna and to 378p for a British Blue cross from Messrs Sisson, Fenton Farm, Brampton.

Heifers sold to a top of £2882.30 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth and to 434p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Moffat, Stone House, Gretna.

Cast cows from Messrs Warnock and Sons, Dreva sold to £2636 and to 329p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Wigham, Park Burnfoot. Dairy cast cows from Messrs Rogerson and Son, Wardpark topped at £2386 and 269p.

Cast ewes peaked at £285 for a Blue Texel from Messrs Todhunter, Greyrigg, while rams topped at £252 for a Texel from Duncrahill Farm House.

Spring lambs reached £205 from Messrs Norwood, Fell End and too 375.5p for a pen of commercial lambs from Braco Farming, Dumfries.


AYR

Craig Wilson sold 448 cast ewes and 1333 spring lambs, meeting an average of 335p (+21p on the week). The top price per head was £190 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Galbraith, Burnbrae and 402p for a pen of three Beltex from Messrs Shennan, Knockgerran.

Cast ewes sold to £248 for a pair of Suffolk Crosses from W Watson, The Muir, with JA Gibson and Co, Cowgrove, selling Texel tups to a top of £228.

Heifers averaged 386.44p or £2268.71, with a top of 420p for a Limousin cross from The Sloan Family at Dormieston. Topping the bulls at £2800 was a Charolais from Girvan Mains, with cows peaking at £2400 for a Simmental from Dalfask.


QUOYBRAE

ANM sold prime lambs at an average of 320.2p, with a top of 363.6p for Texels from Sibmister, Castletown, and £220 for two Texels from Carran, Crosskirk. Feeding ewes and rams (94) averaged £130.43 and peaked at £209.50 for Texels from Carran, Crosskirk.


HUNTLY

United Auctions sold new season lambs (1233) to average 312p, peaking at 349p for a Texel from Newton of Auchaber, Forgue and to £200 for another from the same home. Rams topped at £350 for three Texels from Dunscroft, Huntly. Ewes peaked at £210 for Suffolks from Foulzie, King Edward.


CASTLE DOUGLAS

Wallets Marts saw Texel lambs from Messrs Wallace, Hannaston top the trade at £183 or 353.7p for more of the same from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo. Cast sheep reached £215 for Texels from Gelston Castle Farms, while Cheviots from Mossyard topped the ram trade at £190.
