AN increased entry of cattle sold to a packed ringside of buyers at United Auctions’ Fair Day show and sale at Dalmally, where judging was in the hands of Matthew Steel, Craignathro.
Taking the championship was a British Blue cross heifer from Robert Lines, Killocraw, which weighed 416kg and sold for £1250.
A 430kg Limousin heifer from Duncan Semple, Dippen, was tapped in to the reserve spot before she was knocked down for £1200.
Dippen also took the award for the best opposite sex to the champion, with a 488kg Charolais bullock that realised £1260.
Charolais crosses from Balegreggan led the gross trade at £1390 for a 615kg bullock and £1350 for a 585kg heifer.
A 290kg Limousin cross bullock from Auchgoyle topped the price per kg at 313.8p, with heifers selling to 303.9p for a 408kg Limousin cross from Strathnafanaig.
