FORWARD at Lawrie and Symington's prime sale was four bullocks which levelled at 253p per kg and 27 heifers at 225p.

Heifers topped the pence per kg when they sold to 262p twice for a 559kg and a 566kg from Nethermyres, while bullocks led at £1646.72 for a 664kg from the same home.

The heifers also peaked at £1595.25 for a 709kg Limousin from Craignathro Farms, with bullocks to 583kg for a Limousin from Nethermyres.

The 334 prime lambs averaged 182.1p (-10.7p) and reached 206.4p and £97 for Texels from Grange of Connon, while ewes sold to £90 for Suffolks from Uras.

Cockermouth

A BRITISH Blue heifer from Messrs Bowe, Hunday Farm, topped Mitchells Auction Company's sale of 65 prime cattle, when it sold for 227.50p per kg.

The sale also peaked at £1496.99 for a British Blue bull from P and PI Walker and Son, Beechcroft, while cast cows sold to 174.50p and £1142.98 for a Limousin from Wythop Hall.

Among the 1736 prime sheep, 1274 spring lambs sold within the national trend as SQQs averaged 182.50p and reached 256.50p and £118 for a 46kg Texel lamb from Ashburner, Summerhill.

Texels from Croftlands topped the cull ewes at £105, while rams sold to £80 for Suffolks from Strudda Bank.

Thainstone

ABERDEEN and Northern Marts sold 50 prime cattle at its Thainstone Centre, last week, where 13 bullocks averaged 196.5p per kg and 19 heifers levelled at 213p (-4.6p).

Trade reached 234p for a 540kg Limousin cross heifer from Mains of Knapperna, Udny, and £1394 for a 680kg Limousin bullock from New Mains, Glenkindie.

Bullocks also sold to 221p for a 590kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle, with heifers to £1323.70 for a Charolais cross weighing 610kg from Hillside, Fetternear.

Eight young bulls averaged 169p and sold to 201p for a 570kg Limousin from Tarmair, Boyndlie, and £1249.50 for a 850kg Hereford from Cowlair, Strichen.

Averaging 143p (-11.4p), the 198 beef cows sold to 205.6p for a 630kg Limousin from Norton, Dounby, and £1430 twice for a 805kg Limousin from Lethendry, Cromdale, and a 865kg British Blonde from Beafield, Sanday. The three dairy types levelled at 11.3p and peaked at 116.4p for a 580kg Friesian and £725 for a 625kg Friesian both from Fleck, Dunrossness.

In the sheep, 334 new season lambs sold to 203.9p for 38kg Texels from Corfeidly, Glassel, and £94 for 52kg Zwartbles from Skelbister, Orphir, while 15 old season lambs peaked at £58.50

Stirling (UA)

CONTINENTALS led United Auction's sale of 1084 prime lambs as Texels from Easter Greenhill made £100.50, while Beltex from Dalachy sold for 233p per kg.

The 1107 ewes and rams reached £124 for Texels from Blinkbonny, while Suffolks from Branxton topped the rams at £92.

Stirling (Cal)

HEIFERS topped Caledonian Marts' sale of 132 prime cattle when one from W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn, made 268p per kg and £1626 to average 238p.

The bullocks levelled 225p and peaked at 250p for a Limousin from AS Hay, Mains of Cultmalundie, Tibbermore, and £1602 for the same from A Kennedy and Sons, Seggersdean, Haddington.

Beef cows averaged 142p and hit 192p for a Limousin from Learielaw, and £1450 for a British Blue from the same home, while dairy types levelled at 107p and peaked at 130p from WA Hume and Co, Easter Clune, Dunfermline, and £950 from AWJ and DA Broome, Solsgirth Home Farm, Solsgirth.

Lanark

A TOP price of 252p per kg was paid for a 572kg Limousin heifer from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, at Lawrie and Symington's prime sale, this week.

Averaging 240.7p, bullocks peaked at 220p for a Limousin from Under Shiedhill.

The firm also sold 105 cast cows and bulls which were topped by a Limousin at £1500 from Messrs Erskine, Gillbank Farm, Carluke, while dairy types realised £935 from Messrs Mackie, Shotlinn Farm, Strathaven.

In the sheep, 696 new season lambs averaged 176p and sold to 217p for 44kg Texels from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, and £99.50 for 47kg Texels from R Warnock, Hill Farm.

The cast ewes peaked at £141.50 for Texels from Auchenbart, while rams reached £118.50 for Texels from Hartwood.
