A SMALL offering of 532 store lambs sold through Craig Wilson's Ayr centre, where all types sold to a high demand with a big turnout of buyers.

Averaging £59.64 (+£3.18 on the year), top price was £70 for a pen of strong Texel lambs from Genoch Farm, Ayr.

St Boswells

STORE lambs met a buoyant trade for long keep lambs at Harrison and Hetherington's first sale of the season at St Boswells, last week, where continentals topped the trade.

Top price was £65 for Texels from Woolaw.

Dingwall

LAMBS from most areas were shown in good bloom and sold at rates similar or slightly ahead of last year at Dingwall and Highland Marts' annual district sale of store lambs.

While lesser grown lambs proved more difficult to cash, the 13,251 forward averaged £50.91 (-£1.63) and saw the 2044 Texel cross lambs produce the best average of £56.95 (-0.78p) when they sold to £84 from 2 Dounie, Edderton.

The 3970 other breeds of lambs averaged £56.73 (+£1.13) and peaked at £74.50 for Beltex crosses from Tullyglens, Dunphail, while 1593 Cheviot ewe lambs cashed in at £44.51 (-£7.64) and realised £90 from 9 Lochussie, Dingwall.

Cashing in at £47.89, the 5644 Cheviot wedder lambs sold to £70 twice from 1 Dounie, Edderton and Park Farm, Strathpeffer.

Trade hit £78 twice for Texels from Mains of Lurg, Nethy Bridge, and for a Ryeland from Blackhall, Drumoak.

MOST averages dropped slightly on the week at United Auctions' sale of 5180 store lambs and feeding sheep, although the Blackface average improved by as much as £7.34 on the week.

SHORT keep lambs sold firmer on the week with long keep lambs proving harder to cash at Caledonian Marts' sale of 1674 store lambs.
