Forfar
IT was Limousins from Nethermyres that led Lawrie and Symington’s sale of 29 prime cattle, last week, when a 538kg heifer realised 258p per kg and a 639kg bullock sold for £1578.33. 
Limousins led the other sections at 253p for a 621kg bullock from Gask and £1512 for a 630kg heifer from South Ballo as the 10 bullocks and 19 heifers all averaged 241p. 
Prime lambs (541) improved on the week to average 183.1p (+5.9p) having sold to 220p for a Texel from Mains of Dalrulzion and £108 for Beltex from Baldovie. 

Dumfries
THERE were very few meaty cows forward at C and D Auction Marts’ sale of 57 OTM cattle, last week, where 38 dairy cows levelled at 96.4p per kg and 19 beef cows averaged 111.2p. 
They reached £1168.20 for a Simmental from Meikle Barncleugh as well as 132p for a Limousin from Drumburn, while dairy sorts hit £969 and 114p for a Holstein from Townhead. 
Trade was much sharper for all classes of prime lamb as the 710-strong offering peaked at 209p twice and £98, all for Beltex from Netherton.

Huntly
LAMBS cashed in a recent rates bar the best heavy sorts which sold sharper on the week at United Auctions’ sale of 1030 prime lambs. 
They were led by 61kg Texels from North Dorlaithers, Turriff, at 287p per kg and £175. 
A lot of lean ewes were present in the cast ring and heavy sorts proved short of buyers’ requirements as the 1077 ewes peaked at £141 for Texels from Weston. 

Stirling (Cal)
A PLAINER show of cattle to that of last week sold decidedly dearer at Caledonian Marts sale of 85 prime cattle.
Heifers averaged 230p per kg and sold to 258p twice for Limousins from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, and £1631 from R Kennedy, Borlick. Bullocks cashed in at 218p and also peaked at 258p for a Limousin from Easter Ochtermuthill, as well as £1617 from J Meikle and Sons, Turniemoon. 
Averaging 128p, beef cows reached 178p from C Malone, Pitcairn, and £1390 from A Wright, West Lundie, while dairy types levelled at 106p and peaked at 135p from PS Logan, Aitkenhead, and £930 from R Wilson, Muircot. 
On Tuesday, the firm sold 1814 prime lambs, ewes and tups, which saw all classes of lambs sell easier on the week as the 1236 forward averaged 175.8p (-13p on the week, n/c on the year). Top price of the day at £101 went to Doune Farms for a 52kg Beltex, while a pen of five Beltex weighing 43.4kg from T Mitchell, Easter Goremyre, realised 207.3p. 
Also forward were 578 cast ewes and tups which saw heavy ewes average £68.32 and peak at £108 for a Texel tup from AC and DR Henderson, Faulds, with export ewes at £37.88. 

Thainstone
ABERDEEN and Northern Marts sold 36 prime cattle, last week, where eight bullocks averaged 206.2p (+7p on the week) with 16 heifers at 214.5p (+0.4p). 
Heifers topped when they sold to 245p for a 540kg Limousin from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and £1497.30 for a 690kg British Blue from the same home. 
Bullocks peaked at 225p for a 590kg Limousin from Braeside, Tough, and £1482.55 for a 745kg Simmental from Whiteside, Tullynessle. 
Levelling at 143.2p (+1.4p), the 98 beef cows sold to 191.2p for a Limousin from Standingstones, Durris, and £1450 for a Simmental from Mid Rettannach, Rothiemay, while 11 bulls averaged 122.3p (+1.5p) and sold to 132p and £1590 for a 1205kg Charolais from East Kincraigie, Lumphanan.
In the sheep ring, the 927 new season lambs averaged 174.6p (n/c) with 551 SQQs at 174.6p (-0.8p). Trade hit a top of 196.7p for 46kg Beltex from Birkenbower, Lumsden, and £100 for 52kg Texels from South Greycairn, Newmill. 

Stirling (UA)
BELTEX led United Auctions’ sale of prime lambs as they sold to £100 for a pen from Pett and 229p per kg for the same from Woodhead of Aberdalgie. 
While the 2747 prime lambs averaged 186.3p, the 1185 ewes and rams sold to £136 for Texels from Netherurd with tups to £140 for Texels from Badenheath. 

Ayr
TOP price at Craig Wilson’s sale of 1359 prime lambs was £97 paid for a heavyweight Suffolk from JC Smith and Co, Laigh Boreland Farm, or 214p per kg for four Texels from Messrs Brown, Caprickhill. 
While many more lambs with size and flesh could have been sold, the sale averaged 187p (+1.3p on the week). 
All classes of cast ewes sold much dearer on the week as the 320 light ewes averaged £46.50 and 282 heavy ewes cashed in at £79.20. They sold to £120 for two Texels from JH Logan and Co, Brockloch, while Blackfaces peaked at £71 for a pen from the National Museum of Scotland, Kittochside.

Orkney
A GOOD show of quality cattle sold well at Orkney Auction Mart, this week, where 437 stots averaged 218.9p per kg and peaked at 282.9p and £1570 for a British Blue weighing 555kg from GT and S Coghill, Muce. 
The 165 heifers cashed in at 208.2p and sold to 230.8p for a 390kg British Blue from RS Thomson, Hallbreck, and £1300 for a 595kg Charolais from Glen Farm, St Ola. 
In the sheep ring, 379 prime lambs sold to 189.6p for two Texels weighing 48kg from T Harvey, Hillcrest, while a similar duo weighing 55kg from T Harcus and Co, Branstane, made £94. 

St Boswells
HARRISON and Hetherington sold 50 clean cattle at St Boswells, including 17 bullocks which averaged 226p per kg (+1p on the week) and 32 heifers at 229p (+1p).
Heifers topped when they sold to 244p from Mosstower, while bullocks sold to 236p from Kedzlie. Topping the gross trade at £1444 was an entry from Unthank. 
Cast cows (30) averaged 141p (-6p) and sold to 197p from Bedrule and £1477.42 from Townhead. 
In the sheep, a good show of 1372 lambs sold sharper on the week as they averaged 193.6p (+10.6p) and sold to £112 for Beltex from Crookston, and 266.7p for Texels from Roseview. 
Ewes (417) averaged £49 and sold to £119 for Texels from Kedzlie, with heavies levelling at £74 while light types sold to £73 for Cheviots from North Synton, and averaged £37. 

Lanark
SELLING at Lawrie and Symington this week were 140 prime cattle which peaked at 258p per kg for a heifer from David Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, and £1666 for the same from Heatheryhall. 
Bullocks sold to 246p and £1500 for a Limousin from Brockwoodlees. 
Among the cast cows, beef types sold to £1295 from Cairnie and 183p from Dykeneuk, while dairy cows reached £1085 and 139p from High Crewburn. 
A larger show of 2602 prime lambs saw all classes sharper on the week. Averaging 184p with SQQs at 186p, they reached £102 for Texels from R and M Struthers, Collielaw, and 223p for Beltex from Laird, Yeldabek, Orkney. 
Another good show of 744 cast ewes saw heavy ewes in demand to top at £140 for Texels from Auchenbart.

Castle Douglas
ALL classes sold cheaper on the week at Wallets Marts’ sale of 1050 prime lambs as those with meat still proved popular while lambs lacking finish were hardest to sell. 
Top today was £87 paid for heavyweight Texels from Messrs Beattie, Muircleugh, while a similar pen from Messrs Jardine, Upper Hardland, realised 228.9p. 

Dingwall
EIGHTEEN prime heifers sold through Dingwall and Highland Marts’ this week, to average 217p (-0.6p on the week) and sold to 234p for a 595kg Limousin cross and £1500.15 for a 685kg Charolais cross, both from Bridgend Farm, Dingwall. 
New season lambs (668) averaged 174.2p (-2.1p) and sold to 186p for a pen of 43kg Texel crosses from Moulinard House, Tain, and £85 for a pen of 46kg Beltex crosses from Kinnahaird Farm, Contin. The 552 SQQs cashed in at 175.5p (-1.6p).
