THE 587 bullocks sold at United Auctions' sale averaged 207.83p having sold to 257p per kg for a 284kg Limousin cross from Berryhill, and £1300 for a 674kg Limousin cross from Elmscleugh.

Dairy bullocks (61) averaged 140.94p having peaked at 165p and £980 for a 594kg Friesian cross from High Branchal.

Heifers (412) averaged 200.58p selling to 241.60p for a 298kg Limousin cross from Berryhill, and £1180 for a 548kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Dunglass Home Farm.

The 27 young bulls sold to 207p per kg and £1000 for a Limousin cross from Crosshouse.

Leading the entry of 153 beef cows which averaged 113.67p, was a British Blue cross from Pitcairn that made 172.77p per kg with another of the same breeding making £1410 for Crawford Wall. Dairy cows (33) averaged 93.37p having sold to 127.60p for a Holstein Frieisan cross from Woodend, and £945 for Montbeliarde cross from Meikle Camoquhill.

The firm also sold 3254 store and feeding sheep at their annual cast ram and store sale, where cast rams sold to £94 for Berrichon rams from Aucheneck.

LAST week, Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 3199 sheep, where 1988 lambs averaged £57.86 selling to £80 twice for Cheviots from Shieldaig, Strathcarron and Texel crosses from Bogburn, Dingwall.

The 678 ewes cashed in at £46.46, selling to £93 for Suffolks from Raffin, Tore, while 478 rams averaged £45.61 from a lead price of £110 for a Cheviot from Achentoul Farms, Kinbrace.

Feeding sheep (55) sold to £46 for Cheviot ewes from Redpoint, Gairloch.

A Limousin cross bullock from A Wagstaff, Pond House, picked up the championship and the top price of £1500 at the January show and sale of cattle at Hopes Auction Mart's sale.

Reserve was a similarly bred heifer from JM Wharton, Snade, that made £1185.

Top price amongst the heifers was £1285 paid for a 26-month-old Limousin from RJ and JM Tudhope, High Parson Bridge.

The 371 heifers averaged 210.8p, up 0.7p. They sold to 266.5p for a pen of three 394kg Charolais crosses from Kennieshillock, Lhanbryde, and £1410 for a 736kg Charolais cross from Lower Reiss Farms, Wick.

Bulls (15) peaked at 246.8p for a pair of 312kg Charolais crosses from 9 Lochussie, Conon Bridge, and £1145 for a 598kg Charolais cross from Glasstullich, Nigg.

Craig Wilson sold 702 store cattle at their sale in Ayr, where 392 bullocks averaged 204.5p or £915.64, 64 Friesian bullocks levelled at 141.4p or £639.30, and 246 heifers cashed in at 193.8p or £861.65.

Top price was £1330 paid for Limousin bullocks off Connellston or 251.5p for Limousin bullocks off Barskelly.

Heifers peaked at £1250 for a Charolais from Caprickhill or 226.2p for Limousins from North Waterland.

A pen from Bourtreebush, led the dairy bullocks per head at £485 with 10 from Stevenston making 157.8p per kg.

A larger show of 639 store hoggs saw all types £5-£6 dearer than the previous sale, with the sale averaging £63.48 from a top of £81 paid for Texels consigned by Messrs Jamieson, Hartfield Farm.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 10 dairy cattle and 97 calves and stirks. A good show of dairy cattle peaked at £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer from J Bryson and Son, Dykehead, to average £1610, while the 97 calves and stirks sold to £510 for a British Blue cross bull from A and C Robertson, East St Colmac, Rothesay.

Store hoggs sold to £98 and £93 for Beltex from Keskadale Hill, with the 145 feeding ewes peaking at £83 for Suffolks from Felton Demesne, with hill ewes to £57 for Blackfaces from Ramshope. Cast rams sold to £80 for Texels from Craigruie.
