Messrs Norman, Little Orton Farm sold a Limousin bull for 2800gns, while they also topped the cows and calves at £2100 for a Limousin cow and calf.

Heifers (756) averaged 215.33p and met with a top of 259.6p per kg for a 285kg Limousin cross from Dyke, and to £1300 for a 652kg Limousin cross from Renton Home Farm.

A special show and sale of 743 store cattle was held by Dingwall and Highland Marts, when Aberdeen Angus bullocks (314) averaged 236.6p and sold to 285.7p per kg for a pen of 357kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses from Clatequoy, Thurso and £1300 gross for a 625kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Ardjachie, Tain.

Aberdeen-Angus heifers (221) averaged 211.6p and sold to 251.9p per kg for a pen of 516kg crosses form Ardjachie and £1300 gross for a pen of 547kg Aberdeen-Angus crosses also from Ardjachie, Tain.

Other native bullocks (94) averaged 209.7p and sold to 283.8p per kg for a 370kg British Shorthorn cross from Lochdhu, Nairn, and £1260 gross for a 770kg Shorthorn cross from 207 Migdale, Bonar Bridge. Other native heifers (56) averaged 200.1p and sold to 227.6p per kg and £1320 gross for a 580kg Shorthorn cross from Balliefurth, Grantown on Spey. In the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle show and sale the championship went to a 625kg bullock from Ardjachie, Tain, which realised £1300.

Reserve champion was a 605kg heifer from Mid Fearn Farm, Ardgay, which made £1200.

Whilst in the Shorthorn section, the champion came from P and A Harrison, Balliefurth, Grantown on Spey with a 580kg heifer realising £1320, and the reserve also went to Messrs P and A Harrison for a 565kg bullock, realising £1220.

UNITED Auctions held their second spring sale of 612 grazing cattle on Islay when bullocks sold to average 231.5p per kg or £876.85 per head and heifers levelled out at 224.6p or £782.44 per head. Bullocks sold to a top of £1190 per head from Islay Estates and to 272p for Charolais crosses from Tallant.

Charolais heifers from Craigfad sold to £1050 per head whilst Bayview led this section at 274p per kg for British Blue cross.

CALEDONIAN Marts had 561 store cattle forward which met a dearer trade to the large ringside of buyers in attendance.

Bullocks averaged 222p per kg selling to 285p for a Simmental from L McColl, Auchenlay, Dunblane and to £1180 for an Aberdeen Angus from R and W Moffat, Bowridge, Carluke.

Heifers averaged 210p selling to 249p for a pen of Charolais from J McKenzie, Ashfield, Balloch and to £1320 for a pen of Limousins from D Reid, Middlerigg, Reddingmuirhead.

Black and whites averaged 138p selling to 142p from G Bell and Son, Westfield, Airth, and to £570 from the same home.

Bulls sold to 209p for a Charolais from A MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth and to £960 from the same home.

Also forward were 103 store hoggs and ewes with lambs at foot. Top price of the day went to A Kinninmonth, Kinnighallen, for a pen of Texel cross ewes with twin lambs at £188. Store hoggs sold to £80 from D Sharp, Deerpark.
