A strong trade was seen at Harrison and Hetherington's fortnightly sale of store cattle where two pens of Aberdeen Angus cross heifers from Pogbie Farms topped the trade at £1180 per head.

Top price per kg was 266.7p paid for a Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Grieve, The Lee.

Overall, heifers averaged 210.7p with bullocks cashing in at 215.8p per kg.

A good show of 250 ewes with lambs at foot sold the same day met a buoyant demand, peaking at £74 per head for an aged Cheviot Mule ewe with Texel ewe lamb from Wester Ulston Sheep.

Champion at Hope's auctioneers show and sale of feeding bulls and store cattle was a 20-month-old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Watson, Cunningarth, which went on to sell for £1500.

Top price however, was £1700 paid for an 11-month British Blue cross heifer from David Batty, Cobble Croft.

Thainstone

A flying trade for the 167 breeding cattle and six bulls forward for Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale, saw the Smith family from Towiemore, Keith, dominate much of the event, selling most of the lead priced lots.

Dearest at £3600 from the farm was a Simmental cross heifer with bull calf at foot, with several others selling for more than £3000.

All classes of cattle were easier cashed and sharper on the week at the centre's store sale too where 1300 head and 11 young calves, were cashed.

Overall, 671 bullocks averaged to 223.8p per kg, while 595 heifers levelled at 218.8p.

Heifers peaked at 292.1p per kg for a 404kg Limousin cross from Shaggart Farm, Sauchen and £1400 for a 560kg British Blue cross from the same home.

Top prices amongst the bullocks were 283.3p per kg for two 300kg Limousin crosses from Buchaam Farm, Strathdon and £1380 for two 666kg Simmental crosses

from Netherwood, Banff.

The 34 bulls peaked at 234.2p for four 284kg Limousin crosses from 2 Bogie Street, Huntly and £1280 for a 688kg Charolais from Ernan, Waterside.

Orkney and Shetland entries peaked at £1320 gross for a 626kg Aberdeen Angus bullock from How Farms, How, Sanday and to 274.3p per kg for 288kg Limousins from A and K Sinclair, Firva, Scousburgh.

Ewes and lambs and store sheep sold the same day peaked at £86 for Suffolk store lambs from Swanbister, Orphir.

Ewes with lambs sold to £75 per head for Mule broken mouthed ewes with a lamb and a half from Roundhome, Corse.

A steady trade for all classes of stock prevailed throughout at Caledonian Marts' sale of 509 store cattle and 909 hoggs and ewes with lambs.

Bullocks and heifers averaged 214p and 205p per kg respectively, having sold to 266p for a bullock from RA Campbell, Meikle Seggie, Milnathort. Heifers were topped at 248p from B and M Rozga, Kilmeny, Islay. Black and white bullocks averaged 153p and sold to 159p from Macrindleston Farm, Girvan.

Leading the sheep trade at £204 per outfit was a pen of Texel hoggs with twin lambs from R McNee, Woodend, who also sold Texel hoggs with singles at £100 per life.

Breeding cattle met the dearest trade seen at C and D Auction Marts' sale of 566 head at Dumfries, where a British Blue heifer with heifer calf from McNeill Estates, Shennanton, topped the trade at £2800.

Bulling heifers peaked at £1500 for a Limousin from Messrs Harvey, Drum.

An abundance of buyers were also forward for the firm's fortnightly sale of 322 store cattle, where bullocks averaged 210.3p per kg, heifers cashed in at 200.2p and young bulls at 200.7p.

Forfar

Breeding cattle were in demand at Lawrie and Symington's sale at Forfar on Tuesday which attracted an entry of 90 head, with a further 331 stores also cashed.

Top price was £2450 paid for a cow and heifer calf from West Park.

Store cattle sold to £1325 for a 645kg Limousin cross bullock from Gairndrum and 261p per kg for a 325kg Charolais from Kinnaniel, to average 224p.

Heifers averaged 216p per kg having peaked at £1200 for a 522 kg Limousin cross from Hillfoot and 249p for a 415kg British Blue from Cairnleith to average 216p.

And, a small entry of young bulls sold to 200p per kg and £1010 for 500kg and 505kg Simmentals respectively from Peasiehill.
