Newton Stewart

Some 1561 prime lambs were sold through Craig Wilson Marts where trade levelled at 242.2p with the sale reaching heights of £138 for a Texel from Charlie Clarke, Airyolland, whilst Beltex from Alan McCaig, Mount Pleasant led the per kg section at 277.5p.

The 453 Mule and Blackface lambs also sold topped at £122 for Mules from M MacTaggart, Dunjop or to 240.9p for a pen of Blackfaces from Paul McMillan, Glenchamber.

Cast sheep forward sold to £165 for a pen of Texels from Messrs Milroy, Mains of Machermore, with tups to £160 for Suffolk Crosses from J and L Stewart, Hallowchapel.

Wooler

A smaller show of 649 lambs were on offer at Harrison and Hetherington, where trade levelled at 253p with Texels leading the way at £159 from J and G Sinclair, Crookston or to 312p for Beltex from Fawns.

Cast ewes topped at £281 for two Texels from R Brewis, Chester Hill, Easington Grange.

Forfar

Trade for prime cattle remained buoyant on the week at Lawrie and Symington's sale, where heifers averaged 288p with a Limousin from West Bog topping the sale at 290p on four occasions.

Leading the per head section at £1915.20 was another Limousin this time from Greenhead.

The 541 prime lambs peaked at £150 for a 77kg Texel ram lamb from D Stewart and Son, Mains of Dalrulzion or to 315p per kg for a pen of 40kg Beltex from JC Houston, Milton Bank, to cash in at 229p.

The small show of 36 cast ewes sold to £130 for a Texel from Mains of Dalrulzion.

Stirling (Cale)

A busy ringside of bidders at Caledonian Marts' weekly primestock sale resulted in heifers selling to 318p for a Limousin from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Dunfermline and to £1897 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, Broxburn.

Bullocks topped at 292p for a British Blue from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres, Auchtermuchty or £1881 for a Limousin from W Dandie and Son.

Also forward were 63 OTM cattle, where beef cows averaged 186p having sold to 267p and £2400 for a British Blue from R and M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay, whilst dairy types achieved 196p and £1270 from Claylands Farm, Balfron.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of bullocks averaged 245.6p having sold to 261p per kg for a 600kg Charolais cross from Ardgathen Croft, Alford and £1753.80 for a 740kg Simmental cross from Euchries, Crossroads.

Heifers levelled at 255.3p and peaked at 277p for a 600kg Limousin and £1815 for a 660kg Limousin both from Euchries, whilst young bulls sold to 257p or 2467.20 for a 960kg Limousin from Easterside, Dunnottar.

In the cast ring, beef finished cows averaged £1521.26 and attained £2310 for a 1024kg Limousin cross from Shenval, Ballindalloch, whilst beef feeding cattle peaked at £1550 for a 672kg Limousin cross from Newmill Home Farm, Cairness, to balance out at £1192.44.

The firm also sold 874 prime lambs which cashed in at 240p having sold to 283p for 42kg Beltex from Eldonbrae, Forres and £130 for 56kg Texels from South Craighead, Skelmuir, while the 662 cast ewes attained £139.50 for Texels from Eldonbrae, Forres.

Longtown

C and D Auction Marts had forward 5547 prime lambs with trade peaking at 342p for Beltex shown by TN Cavers and Co., Sorbie, Langholm or to £178 for Texels from Highfield Farming, Knock, Duns, to level at 252.6p with an SQQ of 252.5p.

A larger show of 4312 cast sheep witnessed ewes sell to £295 for Texels from Highfield Farming Ltd, Knock, Duns, whilst rams attained £190 for more of the same from B Storey, New Hummerbecks, West Auckland and for Suffolks from Highfield Farming.

St Boswells

Harrison and Hetherington sold bullocks and heifers to cash in at 270p and 290p, respectivey.

Bullocks sold to £1970.96 from Bee Edge and to 310p from Penston, whilst Bee Edge led the heifer section at £1922.08 and 328p.

Humebyres and Thorneydykes topped the cast cow trade at 228p and £1939.30 to cash in at 191p.

The 2036 prime lambs averaged 251p with prices peaking at £162 for Texels from Huntington and Philiphaugh or to 293.9p for Beltex from Wester Ulston.

Cast sheep witnessed a top of £190 for a Suffolk tup from James Anderson and Son, Headshaw Farm, Lauder, whilst ewes sold to £161 for a pair of Suffolks from AW and BT Taylor, Belmont Farm.

A special mention to G Davies and Partners, North Synton for the kind donation of two Cheviot tups to the My Name’s Doddie Foundation which achieved £145 per head.

Lanark

Limousin-bred cattle led Lawrie and Symington's sale of 105 prime cattle, where heifers sold to 314p from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees Farm, Canonbie or to £1800 from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw Farm, Carluke.

Beef cows made £1910 from Messrs Quigley, Harvieston Farm, Gorebridge or to 253p from Messrs Mitchell, Newton of Wiston Farm, Biggar, with dairy cows to £1530 from Messrs Whyte, Letham Farm, Lesmahagow or to 188p from Mesrs Struthers, Moatmains Farm, Lesmahagow.

The 5001 prime lambs topped at £156 for Beltex from Messrs Lawrie, Grangehall and to 305p for a pen of Beltex from Messrs Lawrie, Grangehall, to balance out at 246p with an SQQ of 248p.

Some 2580 cast sheep were led at £250 for Texels from Hartside Farms and to £86 for Blackfaces from Haas Side Farms, Lockerbie.

Ayr

Prime lambs proved dearer on the week at Craig Wilson Marts with the 2227 forward averaging 251.9p. Top price of the day was £148 for a pen of Texels from A and CB Miller, Baidlandhill or 309.3p for a pen of Beltex from W and A Watson, Muir Farm.

The 620 cast sheep witnessed ewes top at £300 for Texels off South Craigton, with tups to £170 for Suffolks off Broomknowes.

The firm also sold 81 prime cattle where heifers levelled at 290.7p with prices peaking at 300p for a black Limousin cross off North Boig or £1832.70 for a Limousin off Burnockstone.

In the rough ring, 54 dairy cattle topped at £1440 for a Friesian off West High Ardwell or 194.3p for another of the same from West Cairngarroch, whilst the beef cows sold to £1320 or 198.5p for a Limousin off Grange Farming Co.
