Prime cattle sold to 322p per kg at C and D auction mart's weekly sale, paid for Limousin cross heifers from J Jardine, Yett.

Prime lambs sold to £160 from J Muir and Son, Cleughbrae, and to 360p from M and R Weird, Dressertland.

Among the prime hoggs, hit a top of £158 from MJ Scott, Copewood, and to 300p from J Millan, Ballaggan.

Texel led both the ewes and tups at £195 from Corrie Mains, and to £196 for Rigghead, respectively.

Penrith

A nice offering of prime lambs achieved a top price of 412p per kg for 52kg Continental crosses, from R and A Slack, Cockley Bank.

Continental hoggs from JG and RW Nevinson and Son, High House, made £187.

Ewes averaged £114.28, and sold to £250 for a pair of Texels from Holme House.

Stirling (Cally)

Heifers and bullocks averaged 313p per kg and 308p respectively at Caledonian Marts' weekly prime sale.

Limousins led all sections with heifers selling to 342p from Ross Brothers, Wardhead, Strichen, and to £2261 for D Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, with bullocks peaking at 338p for A Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie, and to £2258 for W Dandie and Sons, Learielaw, Broxburn.

Limousins from W Thomson and Son, Hilton, Kelty, topped the bull trade at 312p and to £2110.

Among the OTMs an average of 212p was achieved, selling to 247p for an Aberdeen-Angus from Caldcoats Beef, Malletshaugh, and to £2060 for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Throsk.

On Tuesday, the firm witnessed prime lambs meet a strong trade with a SQQ of 305p per kg, and a top of 352p for a trio of Beltex from WS Young and Son, Mawcarse, Milnathort, and to £170 from W Raeside, Linnhead, Uplawmoor.

Topping the hoggs at 289p were Texels from C and K Malone, Pitcairn, Fife, and to £156 from J Stewart, Blackburnhall, Blackburn.

A mixed show of ewes forward, reached £190 for a Texel from J H Duncan, Drumheldric, Milton of Campsie.

Thainstone

Limousins led the way at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 131 prime cattle, having sold to 315p per kg for a 625kg bullock from Whiteside, Tullynessle, and to 333p for a 620kg heifer from Mill of Fowlis, Fowlis.

Among the per head sections, a top price of £2340 was paid for a 845kg British Blue cross bullock from Daies, Wardhouse, and to £2186.25 for a 825kg Simmental cross heifer from Backmuir Keith.

Young bulls (16) sold to 291p for a 690kg Limousin from Turfhill, Auchtylair Stuartfield, and to £2589.60 for a 1040kg Charolais from Tillenturk, Torphins.

Averaged fell on the week among the sheep trade with new season prime lambs (296) cashing in at 290.6p (-19p) having sold to 313.3p per kg for 45kg Suffolk crosses from Springburn, Kintore, and to £174 for another of the same breed weighing 64kg from Drimmie, Forfar.

Old season prime lambs (921) averaged 254.8p per kg (-7.6p) and sold to 341.8p for 49kg Texels from East Sandend, Cruden Bay, and to £175 for 65kg Beltex from Newton of Greeness, Turriff.

Stirling UA

A buoyant demand was met at United Auctions' weekly sale of prime sheep, with new season lambs cashing in at 315.56p per kg, having sold to £182 for Continentals from Cairnleith £182, and to 366p for Beltex from West Lethans.

Texels led the prime hoggs having reached £190 for Glenholm, and to 309p for Newmill Rathen, having averaged 235.33p.

Texel ewes from Allanfauld, made £268, with Bluefaced Leicester tups attaining £160 for Ledlation.

Ayr

On Monday, Craig Wilson auction mart held their annual show and sale of prime Texel lambs in conjunction with The Scottish Texel Sheep Breeders Club, where the champion pen of 50kg lambs came from BD Kennedy, West Carngillan, and later fetched £165 or 330p per kg.

The reserve champion was awarded to a pen crossing the weigh bridge at 44kg from R and MK Duffin, West Brockloch, that went on to realise £162 or 368p.

A trio of Suffolk from D Gilmour, Broomknowes, led the 831 prime hoggs at £173, whilst a pen of Texels from WB Lamont, Flemmyland, achieved 335p, with the whole sale averaging 303.4p or £123.

Another large show of 498 hoggs sold to £162 for Texels from Messrs Gilmour, Broomknowes, and to 284p on two occasions, firstly for Texel from Messrs Dale, Lindsayston, and again for a pen of 33 Blackfaces off Messrs Wilson, Faulds

All classes of cast sheep sold at last weeks rates, with the pick being a Texel ewe from Ian Fisher, Merrick Farm that sold at £250.

On Tuesday, the firm held their prime cattle sale, which witnessed a Limousin cross heifer take the top price of 344p per kg for the Smith family, North Boig, having averaged 314.15p.

Bullocks sold to 260p for a Limousin from Burnton, and to £1554.85 for a Hereford from Ladeside.

Limousins topped the young bulls at 272p or £1433.80 for Giffordland.

St Boswells

Bullocks (34) and heifers (65) averaged 304p per kg and 297p respectively at Harrison and Hetherington's primestock sale.

Cattle from Elwick, proved popular topping both the bullocks and heifers at £2323.20 and £2171.16 respectively.

On the sheep front, lambs (959) averaged 306p per kg (-27p on the week), having been led by Texel lambs at £200 from Legars, and to 350p for Redden.

The same breed also led the hoggs at £188 for Butterdean, with easycarse making 284.1p for Pilmuir, having balanced out at 250p (+10p).

Cast sheep (506) averaged £111.59 and sold to £209 for a Texel tup from W Arnott and Co. Butterdean, with ewes selling to £185 from Garvald.

Lanark

Limousins from Messrs Dickinson, Brockwoodlees, Canonbie, dominated Lawrie and Symington's sale on Monday, with heifers to 358p per kg and £2184 and bullocks to 245p per kg and £1897.

A small show of 196 lambs cashed in at 304p per kg, with a SQQ of 302p, having topped at £178 for Suffolk from Messrs Mitchell, Newton of Wiston, and to 382p for Texel from Messrs Warnock, Hill.

Beltex led the 1095 hoggs at £166 for Messrs Goodfellow, Townfoot, and to 302p for Messrs Cunningham, Walkerdyke, having balanced out at 235p, with a SQQ of 230p.

A good show of 1276 cast ewes and rams were harder to cash having reached £250 for Texels from Messrs Gibson, Cowgrove and Messrs Woodmass, Harene.

Carlisle

A larger show of 66 prime steers and heifers were forward this week for Harrison and Hetherington, witnessing a top call of £2439.45 for a 834kg British Blue steer from Messrs Smithson, Bloan, Kirkby Stephen, with a 701kg Limousin heifer reaching £2050.43 for Messrs Nimmo, Bogside, Wishaw.

Among the pence per kg, steers peaked at 318.5p per kg for a 749kg British Blue cross from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle, with heifers realising 327.5p for a 604kg entry from Messrs Gass, Nunscluugh, Carlisle.

A large show of ewes kicked off proceedings having hit £215 for Texels from TJ Magee, Strathbane,.

Prime lambs sold beyond all expectations with an overall average of 331p being achieved, Beltex lambs from Peter Urwin, Hill House led the way at £204 and 454.8p.

A very mixed offering of hoggs peaked at £182 for Texels from RD Horn, Field House, Penrith.

Dingwall

A 615kg Gasconne cross heifer from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair, secured the top price of 322p per kg and £1980.30 at Dingwall and Highland Marts' prime sale, with 10 heifers averaging 296.6p (+0.6p).

Bullocks (10) cashed in at 305.7p (+20.6p) having sold to 319.0p for a 585kg Limousin cross from Udale, Poyntzfield, and to £1935.00 for a 645kg Aberdeen-Angus cross from Easter Sheeppark, Balblair.

On the sheep front trade peaked at 312.0p per kg for a pair of 43kg Suffolk cross new season lambs from Badentoul, Fordyce and to £138 for a pen of 49.5kg Suffolk crosses from Torgormack, Beauly, having averaged 285.6p.

Beltex from the Stables, Fearn led the old season lamb trade at 306.0p and £138 for pens weighing 42.5kg and 52kg respectively, having balanced out at 220.6.0p .
