A small consignment of 39 Badger Face Texels was forward for the society’s show and sale of in-lamb females at Carlisle, where prices peaked at 5000gns.

Leading the charge was the gimmer, Cleenagh Chunk from Clive Richardson, of the Cleenagh flock, Enniskillen, Northern Ireland. A daughter of Turdo Das Notorious Big, which has bred progeny to £4000, out of a home-bred ewe, she stood reserve champion at the pre-sale show, and sold scanned with a pair to Cleenagh Macavellie, to Messrs Diamon, Garvath.

The ewe lamb Cleenagh Dolphin, made 1800gns for the same home when selling to Messrs Little, Houghton Le Spring, Tyne and Wear. Third in her class, she is a daughter of Cleenagh Paddy Power and is bred from an imported dam, being a maternal sister to the £8800 Cleenagh Bo Peep.

The judge, Richard Bett of the Yarburgh flock, Louth, bought his choice of champion – Woodies Delight, a ewe lamb from Stuart Wood, Skene, Aberdeenshire, at 3500gns. February-born, she is a daughter of Powerful Tornado and bred from the imported dam, Woodies Angel Lights.

Woodies Diamond, another ewe lamb from Mr Wood, made 1800gns to Messrs Little, Houghton Le Spring. Second in her class, she is by Woodies Full Monty – a Dutch import which has previously bred ewe lambs to 2000gns on two occasions.

Mr Wood also sold a gimmer for 1800gns to Messrs Flanagan, Keady, Armagh. Bred by Becki Dakin, she is a daughter of Turbo Das Notorious Big, out of Turbo Das and sold scanned with a pair to Cleenagh Hugo Boss.

The best from Michael James, of the Duhonw flock, from Builth Wells, Powys, reached 2000gns. This was a gimmer by the Carlisle purchase, Sunnybank Black Jack, bred from the bought in dam, Turbo Das. She headed home carrying two lambs to Cleenagh Ding a Ling, with Messrs McCornick, Kirkinner.
