GLASGOW-born owner, Jimmy Long, saw his beloved Partick Thistle colours carried to victory by Carbon Dating in the inaugural running of the £100,000 Queen’s Cup at Musselburgh, on April 15.

The 12-1 chance enjoyed a length-and-a-half success – while Partick Thistle proved not so effective, losing 2-0 to Rangers the same afternoon.

“It’s fantastic to win the first-ever Queen’s Cup as it’s a piece of history,” he said. “We might go for a Group 3 race now at somewhere like Chester.”

Irvine-based jockey, Danny Tudhope, rode Dandy Highwayman to win the six-furlong handicap at Ripon, on April 20, and was also successful at Pontefract, on April 24, riding Black Isle Boy to a 5-1 victory in the six furlong maiden stakes.

Jim Goldie saddled a 4-1 winner on the opening afternoon of Ayr’s Scottish Grand National meeting, on April 21. Great Fighter headed the two-mile handicap hurdle race in the hands of Jedburgh-based jockey, Callum Bewley

Lucinda Russell also had a winner on Scottish Grand National day on April 22, when Tantamount produced a career-best performance to land the conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle race.

The 10-1 chance was ridden to victory by Hawick jockey, Blair Campbell.

Then, at Wetherby, on April 23, Honourable Gent enjoyed a comfortable 21-length success in the two-mile handicap chase in the hands of Hawick jockey Craig Nichol. The winner is trained at Alnwick by Rose Dobbin for her parents, Sarah and Duncan Davidson.

Northumberland trainer, Susan Corbett, won the concluding mares' bumper with 8-1 chance Heartasia, ridden by her son James.

Civil Unrest defied top weight to record his ninth success when landing the concluding two-mile handicap hurdle race at Sedgefield on April 19.

The 8-1 winner is trained at Langholm by James Ewart for his Ancrum connections.

Hawick jockey Jason Hart rode a winner at Newmarket on April 18.

He partnered El Astronaute to a 5-1 victory in the concluding five-furlong handicap.
