Tiffany Mactaggart chose to study Rural Business Management at SRUC because of her passion for rural industries.

After gaining a first-class honours degree, the 25-year-old, from Bonchester Bridge, near Hawick, has been offered at job with SAC Consulting, part of SRUC.

“Having grown up on a family farm I developed a passion for farming and rural industries,” she said. “Business management is an increasingly important aspect of any business and I chose Rural Business Management as I wanted to remain in the rural sector.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the variety in the course, in particular the farm visits and case studies which have allowed what has been learnt to be applied in a practical situation, giving a feel for the challenges which may be faced.”

Having worked part-time throughout her studies, in the summer break before fourth year, Tiffany did a 10-week internship with SAC Consulting, based between the St Boswells office and the Edinburgh office, at the Bush Estate.

“Before the internship, I wasn’t sure what consulting was all about,” she said. “This gave me a feel for the job and made it very appealing as a career I wanted to go into.

“It also put me in a good position when I applied for a job as an Agricultural Consultant in January.” Tiffany has now joined the St Boswells team, but will also help at the Bush.

“If you’re looking for a job in the rural industry, SRUC is a great place to go because it offers so much experience within the rural sector and applying your knowledge to a rural situation.”
