The 40th Anniversary Sail n’ Stay recently marked a momentous occasion in the history of the Ellen Kerr Awards Scheme, commemorating four decades of excellence and community spirit.
Held in the picturesque surroundings of Loch Katrine and Aberfoyle, the event brought together 70 participants, including former SAYFC West Regional chairmen, ladies chairmen, trustees, and those who fondly remembered Ellen Kerr from their time in the association.
The celebration kicked off with a scenic cruise on the Sir Walter Scott steamship on Loch Katrine. Despite the breathtaking views, the real highlight was the vibrant conversations and heartfelt reunions among attendees, some of whom hadn’t seen each other in years.
After the cruise, the gathering moved to the MacDonald Forest Hills Hotel in Aberfoyle. Guests enjoyed a delightful drinks reception, capturing group photos in the hotel’s stunning surroundings.
The evening festivities included a magnificent three-course meal, with Neil Sands, chairman of the Ellen Kerr Awards Scheme, opening the night. Jimmy Ritchie shared touching stories about his aunt Ellen, followed by Mary Welsh and Jimmy Ritchie cutting a beautifully crafted cake in the shape of the Ellen Kerr shield, made by former ladies chairman Moira Gemmell.
The evening continued with Sandy Wilkie proposing a toast and facilitating a nostalgic journey through the memories of Ellen Kerr, as guests shared their personal stories. The night concluded with further socialising, reminiscing over old scrapbooks provided by SAYFC, and past issues of SAYFC Westwards magazines.
The following morning, guests enjoyed a delightful breakfast, praising the superb service and hospitality. The event not only celebrated the legacy of Ellen Kerr but also strengthened the bonds within the SAYFC community.
