Rising energy costs and uncertainty around taxation and policy continue to challenge farmers across the UK.
CK Energy, a family-run Ayrshire business, believes practical solutions are available to help producers regain control of their energy use and costs.
With over 10 years’ experience, CK Energy specialises in solar PV, battery storage, biomass boilers, and Renewable Heat Incentive support.
The company has completed over 18 megawatts of solar installations across domestic, agricultural, and commercial sites, including farms, schools, and hospitals, while maintaining more than 200 biomass customers nationwide.
Director Chris Kennedy emphasised that energy costs only become a real problem if no solutions are considered.

“Energy cost issues only affect you or your business if there is absolutely no solution to it. Whether it be a long-term solution or a short-term solution,” he said.
The electricity market is currently stable, but price rises and standing charge changes are expected, meaning farms drawing more power from the grid will face higher costs. CK Energy highlights that simply reducing grid demand can help producers save.
“Simply, if you demand more of the grid you will pay more and if you demand less then you will pay less,” Mr Kennedy explained.
CK Energy also stresses its expertise in tailoring solutions to each farm.
“At CK Energy we are experts in sizing an appropriate solution to your needs,” he said.
The company highlighted inefficiencies in the UK’s renewable system, estimating £1 million a day is wasted by switching off wind farms because surplus power cannot be stored.
To tackle this, CK Energy has partnered with a battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturer, combining on-farm expertise with AI-driven technology to capture and store surplus renewable energy. This allows farms to use stored power when it is most valuable, reducing reliance on the grid and helping manage costs.

The new solution will be launched at Hugh S Watson & Co, Laigh Tarbeg Farm, Cumnock (KA18 2RL) on October 31, where visitors can see the technology in action and discuss bespoke options for their farms.
