Treat your mum this mothering Sunday to a stroll around the new ‘Food and Makers’ market which launches in Glasgow city centre this weekend.

The Food and Makers Market will open in Platform at Argyle Street Arches on Sunday, March 31, in a bid to be Glasgow’s answer to London’s Borough Market.

The new market will offer quality products for customers to enjoy at home including breads, cheeses and dairy, charcuterie, local rare breed sausages and seafood, as well as freshly marinated olives, pickles and preserves and seasonal fruit and veg by producers who use local, sustainably sourced, seasonal, free range and fair-trade produce.

In addition to the Farmers market, there will be a Makers and Curators Quarter offering the most innovative and independent designers, makers, curators and creators selling the highest quality of handmade clothes, jewellery, homeware, music, furniture, plants, gifts and crafts.

The Kitchen Farmer, Jim Fairlie, who pioneered Scotland’s very first farmer’s market in Perth 20 years ago, and is spearheading this initiative, will be bringing fully traceable lamb and mutton as well as eggs, oats and honey to this exciting new event.

A spokesperson for Platform at Argyle Street Arches said: “We are thrilled to launch what we hope to be Scotland’s answer to London’s Borough Market right here in the city centre of Glasgow and build on the already successful Street Food Market, adding another dimension to the experience when you come in to Argyle Street Arches. All of our traders have been picked for their passion and creativity using fresh, seasonal and responsibly sourced products and there really is nothing else like it across Scotland. We are really keen to connect the people of Glasgow with farmers, food producers and independent makers to provide a shopping experience that is unique to anywhere else in the country.”

Platform has built a standing as Glasgow City Centre’s only regular independent street food market, welcoming more than 3000 visitors every weekend. The team behind Platform want to expand on the great foodie reputation by creating an experience that offers the best in traditional and contemporary food created by knowledgeable and engaging producers who champion the farm to fork ethos.

The market will be open every second Sunday from 10am til 5pm. It’s a kid and dog friendly venue, and there is a fully licensed bar. For more information see the facebook page,
