The Countryside Area is the first glimpse of the show for many show-goers and it’s a feast for the eyes. A combination of rural skills, displays and entertainment to welcome show-goers, amid the scenic setting of the show’s lochan.

On the microphone this year is John Lamb, who has been voicing shows for the last 30 years. He will provide the audience with fun facts about the arena activities and spontaneous interviews with the rural skill’s demonstrators.

Birds of Prey displays

Birds of Prey Displays is a flying display completely different to what you have seen before, flying the largest eagles and vultures in the world.

Andrew Toft – casting on the lochan

Andrew Toft became the first instructor in Europe to be awarded FFF THCI (Two Handed Casting Instructor) is one of only a few master qualified instructors in Scotland. He will be giving top tips on casting at the show.

The Quack Commandos

Presented by the Scottish Sheepdog School , this hilarious road show demonstrates the skill and speed of the Border Collie in action with a flock of Indian Runner ducks.

The sheepdogs guide the ducks round a course of obstacles. And then the public can have a go too.

Pakefield Ferrets

Simon’s arena demonstrations are ranked amongst the most entertaining and popular on the UK circuit. Thirty minutes of education, amusing action-packed and unscripted drama that blossoms as he regales the ferrets journey.

Primal bushcraft and survival

As people rely on technology more and more, they are losing primal instincts and survival skills which can help save and preserve life in an emergency. Come along and experience these amazing skills in the countryside area.

Wild Rose Escapes – Rural Skills Marquee

Returning once again, Wild Rose Escapes will have eco-printing with flowers and foraged leaves printing on cotton swatches. In addition to this there will be wild food foraging and cooking on an open fire.

Sealpin Gundogs

Joe Hipwell produces trained gundogs that are sold around the world. Watch Joe give a demonstration of the wonderful training that his dogs can demonstrate and ask any questions you may have.

Archipelago Folkschool Canoes

Archipelago Folkschool will be showing off their skills by building an open canoe from start to finish over the four days! Come join them, have a go with hand tools and you can take a canoe onto the lochan.

Tree-ditions workshop – Rural Skills Marquee

Stone and wood carving are some of the oldest crafts in the world. Come and join Tree-ditions at The Countryside Area to learn the ancient art of carving. Spaces are limited, so booking at the Tree-ditions stall is advised.

12 o’clock Countryside Ceilidh

Take part in a jig with Scottish country dancing, hosted by an MC and caller with live accordion music played by a top Scottish player –dances for all ages!
