For many couples, it’s the little details that make a wedding truly memorable. Invitations, table plans and other stationery might seem small, but they set the tone for the day.
That’s where ‘by Jenna B’ comes in. Based in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Jenna has built a reputation for creating bespoke, hand-painted designs that are personal, colourful and full of character. Although Jenna didn’t set out to be a stationery designer.
“One of my best friends was getting married,” she said. “She couldn’t find any invitations she liked. She asked me if I could make some because I can draw and paint. I thought, why not?”
She made the invitations, then the table plan and other on-the-day stationery. What started as a favour quickly became a new career path.
At the time Jenna was still teaching in a primary school. She began sharing her work on Instagram, and before long, friends of friends were asking her to create their stationery.
“I wasn’t doing it professionally yet, but I said yes. Then more people asked. About a year later, in 2021, I started a separate Instagram just for the stationery, and it just grew from there,” she said.
Everything Jenna makes is hand-painted and bespoke. The process can take a few months, depending on the project. She starts with a sketch, works with the couple to make changes, and adds all the little details that make it theirs.
“Sometimes it’s simple, sometimes it’s more intricate—like including herd numbers on farm animals, or creating pet portraits, which take a lot of care to get just right. That’s what makes it special,” she explained.
Maps and illustrated details are one of Jenna’s signature touches, often showing a couple’s farm, their wedding venue, the church and directions between locations.
“It’s not just useful, it’s something the couple can hang and enjoy at home,” she said.
Jenna often turns wedding artwork into prints so it can be treasured long after the day.
“It’s nice that it’s not just done for the invite and forgotten about.”
Over the years, Jenna’s style has evolved. Early designs were clean and floral but now she focuses on vibrant, illustrative work packed with personal details.
“I like to include things that tell a story about the couple, little touches that make the stationery theirs,” she explained.
Many of her clients come from farming backgrounds, which isn’t surprising given Jenna’s own roots.
“I’ve lived on a farm all my life, having grown up on a mixed farm with cows as a main focus and I’m now married to a farmer. The countryside has always been a big part of who I am, so it’s lovely to work with people who feel the same,” she said.
“I now live on an arable farm growing mainly tatties, and I’ve even worked with couples where the groom got very excited when I asked what breed of sheep they had. Couples like knowing I understand their world and what I’m talking about, and that really makes a difference throughout the whole stationery planning process.”
While she attends a few open days and trade shows, most of her business comes through social media. She also works with local shops, selling greeting cards, prints, notepads and bookmarks, with stockists from Inverness to Ayrshire. This helps balance her business, especially as Jenna completed 40 weddings last year, alongside her own.
Jenna doesn’t offer fixed price packages, as all weddings are different. Instead she works with each couple on what they want, such as how much illustration they’d like, how much space is needed for details and the number of guests.
“All printing is outsourced. I did try doing it myself, but by the time you print and cut, it’s too time-consuming. I need to focus on the design,” she said.
Her advice for couples choosing wedding stationery is simple: “Work with someone who really listens and creates something that feels truly unique to you. It’s the small details that make your day yours, and they really do matter. Your wedding stationery is often the first glimpse your guests have of the celebration to come, so it’s worth taking the time to get it right.”
