Pratis Barns is a place shaped by people, rather than just plans.
Set in the Fife countryside, it has been created as a venue for bringing people together, whether that is for a wedding, a milestone celebration or simply an occasion worth marking.
Behind it are husband and wife Nicola and Patrick Gilmour, who took on Pratis in 2019.
Food, drink and entertaining have always been a big part of family life for the couple, and with more than 50 years of combined experience in events and catering, taking on the venue felt like a natural fit.
But Pratis Barns was not a ready-made wedding venue when they arrived. Instead, they found buildings and land full of character, history and potential.
Over the years, Nicola and Patrick have gradually transformed the site, developing it without losing the character that attracted them to it in the first place.
The result is an exclusive-use countryside wedding and events venue set across 38 acres, with a collection of characterful barns, open countryside and far-reaching views.
The couple wanted to create somewhere that felt special without being too formal, and where couples could have a wedding that suited them rather than having to fit into a set format.
That flexibility remains an important part of what Pratis offers. Couples can choose from indoor and outdoor ceremony and celebration spaces, with the venue's own catering, bars and accommodation at Pratis House all available on site.
“No two couples are the same, and we don’t believe their weddings should be either,” said the couple.
Food is a big part of the Pratis experience, with menus prepared by the in-house kitchen and catering team. Having the catering under one roof means the team can work closely with couples on their plans and make food part of the occasion, rather than simply another job to organise.
It is also something Nicola and Patrick take particular pride in, with food regularly mentioned by guests as one of the highlights of their time at Pratis.
Pratis House provides luxury accommodation on site, giving couples and their closest family and friends the chance to stay together. For some, this turns the wedding into more of a weekend celebration, with time to relax, catch up and enjoy each other's company before and after the main event.
The personal involvement of the owners is another important part of the venue.
Nicola and Patrick are there from the first enquiry and initial planning through to the wedding day itself. They help couples work through their ideas, organise the practical details and are on hand when something inevitably needs sorting at the last minute.
Their aim is to make the process as straightforward as possible while still giving couples plenty of freedom to make the day their own.
Every wedding includes exclusive use of Pratis Barns, flexible ceremony and celebration spaces, in-house catering and accommodation at Pratis House, with an experienced team on hand throughout.
Much has changed at Pratis since Nicola and Patrick arrived in 2019, and the venue continues to evolve. However, the reason behind it has stayed the same, creating somewhere people feel comfortable, well looked after and able to enjoy spending time together.
For the couple, that is ultimately what a wedding should be about: good food, good company and making memories with the people who matter most.
