A top price of £3920 was achieved at Gisburn Auction Marts’ first weekly dairy sale of the month, where 121 head went under the hammer and 31 lots sold for £3000 or more
Topping the trade was a pedigree heifer from the Lawson family’s Newbirks herd, Otley. This Sheland Parfect Lock daughter from the Remembrance family, is out of a 14,519kg dam and sold giving 40kg to the pre-sale judge, Freddie Blezard.
The same home sold a Sandy-Valley R Conway daughter from the extensive Jazz family at £3680. Out of an Ex93-classified 70-tonne dam, she sold giving 46kg. Another by Conway and bred from the Rembrance family from Newbirks made £3620. Both were knocked down to an undisclosed buyer.
Second top price was £3800 paid for a Whytil heifer from Preston-based breeders J and M Singleton and Sons, Goosnargh. By Cherry-Lily Zip Luster and out of a Delaberge Pepper dam, she sold giving 33kg, to the judge.
Mr Blezard also paid £3780 for a Sandy-Valley Conway daughter bred in the Aireburn herd’s Dolly family from Jennings Farmers, Ripon.
At £3600, JA Lawn, Cullingworth, Bradford, sold Askhambryan Zaz Paula, a Koepon Zaz-sired entry.
Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale, Lancaster, sold two heifers from their Pennine herd at £3580. First was a daughter of Seagull-Bay Applejax from the extensive Poppy family, followed by a Rubicon from the herd’s Sincere line.
Trade for non-pedigree fresh heifers reached £3550 for the best of six from HJ and KL Blackwell, Gargrave, closely followed at £3450 and £3400 by entries from JF and JC Hewitt and family, Nateby, Garstang.
Keen demand for in-calf heifers, all carrying Angus calves due in August and September, saw prices reach £2700 from AR and CA Parkinson, Chipping, while bulling heifers from Mrs Kirkham’s Lancashire Cheese sold to £1750.
