A HOLSTEIN Friesian heifer from the Awde family, Broadmeadows, Cumbria, topped a dairy show and sale at Penrith, selling for £3600.
Champion at the pre-sale show, she was knocked down to R Brough, Langfauld, who also went to £3400 for a second calver giving 35 litres per day from W and M Miller, Jenkins Cross, Wigton.
Cross-bred entries were topped at £3500 for an Ayrshire-cross heifer giving 34 litres from C Dent, Kirkby Thore. She went home with HM Dent.
British Friesian cattle attracted the strongest interest, selling to £3450 for a heifer from D Potter-Wharton, Lime House, Orton, purchased by TJ and JM Powley, Blands.
The champion in the section, a third calver from Messrs Livesey, Lowick Bridge, producing 32 litres, made £3300 to I Askew, Raw Head.
Youngstock peaked at £720 for a pen of five British Friesian heifer calves, aged three and four months from Messrs Forrest, Low Rutter.
