What do I want to see happen in 2022? Honestly, I want to be able to attend a summer show, preferably a local one, in the sunshine, with a cold G&T, seriously though I do hope that we are going to make huge progress before the summer to allow us to be able to finally host Scotsheep and get the sector together at a fantastic farm, have a great day out and a chance to catch up with people we haven’t seen for far too long.
NSA Scotland finished up 2021 by chairing the reinstatement of the industry led working group on scab which was delayed due to the pandemic. The initial work has been positive and I’m excited to take things forward in the new year.
We are also planning to work with government to form a similar group for OPA as well, both of these health issues within flocks have a major impact on the welfare, productivity and efficiency but they also have a massive impact on the health and wellbeing of the farmer/shepherd who is looking after them so it’s of vital importance that we progress things as much as we possibly can.
