For farmers across Scotland, having reliable machinery can make all the difference when it comes to establishing, maintaining and rejuvenating grassland.
Few companies understand this better than Terrington Machinery, the UK importer of Austrian-built Einböck equipment for grassland, seeding and cultivation. As the business steps into 2026 under new leadership, it continues to combine decades of experience with the latest technology to meet the changing needs of UK farmers.
Terrington Machinery was officially founded in 1992, though its roots go back to the mid-1980s. Brian Coleman, originally a farm manager, had begun importing Swiss machinery focused on mechanical weed control.

The business, originally called Coleman Enterprises, soon spotted the potential of Einböck harrows and pneumatic seeders for grassland work.
“People realised the Einböck harrows worked really well on grass, and that’s really how we got started,” explains David Coleman, who now runs the company following his father’s passing in September 2025.
Today the company remains firmly family-run. David works alongside his wife Debbie, who handles the accounts, son Stephen, attends to sales and warehousing, and son-in-law Ashley, manages technology support and technical aspects.

“We all do whatever needs doing to get the job done,” said David. The team occasionally calls on local farmers or temporary staff during busy periods, but most work is kept in-house to maintain close control over service and quality.
Despite its size, Terrington Machinery sells a substantial number of machines across the UK. Scottish customers make up roughly 30-40% of sales, with numbers growing in recent years.
The company has long-standing relationships with dealers such as James Gordon in Dumfries and Ayrshire, Sellers, Ravenhill Tractors, John Kerr Equipment, Bryson Tractors, and Thomas Sheriff. Terrington also maintains a strong presence at shows including the Royal Highland Show and AgriScot.

Quality and longevity are key reasons the company's machines have earned a loyal following. Einböck equipment is built in Austria to a high standard, and many Scottish farmers have used the same machines for over 20 years.
“Scottish farmers value quality and reliability. Once they’ve used our machines, they wouldn’t go back,” added David.
Among their most popular products are the Grass Manager harrows and Pneumaticstar seeders. The Grass Manager comes in standard, SR and Pro versions, with tines ranging from 8mm to 10mm.
The Pro model is designed for contractors and large farms, with hydraulically compensated sections that adapt to uneven ground and level molehills, ensuring an even and healthy sward.

The Pneumaticstar seeders are versatile tools for grassland maintenance and restoration. They come in mechanical (MD) and electrically driven (STI) versions, with working widths from 3m up to 12m.
The PRO models feature heavier frames, levelling boards and optional electronic control for accurate seed placement.
“Precision is more important now than ever,” mentioned David. “Some grass seed rates are as low as 2-3kg per hectare, so farmers need machines that can deliver it accurately.”
Technology is a growing trend. More farmers are adopting GPS guidance, Isobus and electronic seed rate control, though there’s still a place for simpler, mechanical machines.
“Not everyone wants electronics. We provide options for all levels of precision.”
The company has also introduced AI-powered inter-row hoes for crops like pumpkins, reflecting the growing interest in smart, precision-driven technology on UK farms.
Routine maintenance is straightforward but essential. David recommends a 10-point check before the season starts, covering greasing points, chains, wear parts and seals.
“Our machines are low maintenance, but a little preventative work makes a big difference in avoiding downtime,” he said.
Looking ahead, the firm plans to expand its precision and technology range while staying true to its family-run ethos. New harrows and seeders with enhanced precision, AI integration and Isobus control are in the pipeline.
“We want to remain a family company, continuing to provide trusted service and high-quality machinery to our customers.”
