Claas is expanding its telehandler lineup with the new Scorpion 848, bridging the gap between the 756 and 960 models and bringing the range to nine models. Since the first Scorpion telehandlers, developed with Liebherr, debuted at Agritechnica 2017, the range has grown steadily.
The Scorpion 848, built at Telfs, Austria, combines a load capacity of 4800kg with a lifting height of up to 8m, positioning it between the Scorpion 756 and 960.
Powered by a 156hp Deutz four-cylinder engine, the Scorpion 848 features the fully automatic, stepless Varipower Plus hydrostatic drive. Engine speed automatically adjusts through Dynamic Power, responding to joystick position for faster, more efficient loading cycles. Meanwhile, Dynamic Cooling regulates fan speed according to cooling demand, saving fuel and maintaining power reserves.

Reduced transport speed of 1600rpm at 40km/h ensures energy-efficient repositioning. The combination of a wide-angle hydrostat and a second variable displacement motor, along with a differential lock, delivers up to 103kN thrust and a 20t trailer load, with sensitive, precise control across all working conditions.
The Scorpion 848 is designed for stability and precision. The low telescopic arm articulation point, long overlaps between boom sections, and integrated lateral support enhance torsional rigidity and safety. Optional fine control allows delicate handling of heavy or hazardous loads, while standard boom suspension reduces bouncing during fast loading, for example when handling straw bales.
Smart Loading features further assist operators by automatically returning the bucket to saved positions, shaking sticky material free, and retracting the telescopic arm when lowering. With a load-sensing hydraulic system delivering up to 187l/min at 270 bar, even heavy loads can be handled efficiently and rear attachment connections are available in single or double-acting options.
Operator comfort and visibility are priorities. The generously sized cab offers near 360° views, which can be enhanced with up to three optional cameras. Ergonomically arranged controls make operation effortless and precise, even during long working days.
Claas now offers nine Scorpion telehandlers, with load capacities from 3300 - 6000kg and lifting heights of 6.23 - 9.75m. All models are powered by economical four-cylinder engines and feature fully automatic, continuously variable hydrostatic drives, load-sensing hydraulics and intelligent automated systems for smooth, precise operation.
All Scorpion telehandlers are manufactured at the Liebherr Telfs plant in Austria, which employs over 800 staff and has undergone continuous modernisation, including new assembly lines, logistics centres, and cab pre-assembly facilities.
