John Deere has announced its latest generation of fixed and variable chamber round balers, combining power, precision and digital connectivity to boost baling efficiency and operator comfort.

Designed to deliver higher productivity, advanced automation and exceptional bale quality, the new line-up introduces a series of features that aim to make baling smarter and simpler for today’s farmers.

Every model in the new series comes fully ISOBUS-compatible and integrates directly with the John Deere Operations Center. This connection allows operators to monitor bale quality in real time and store all invoicing-relevant data automatically as they leave the field.

Optional moisture sensors provide live readings for each bale, warning the operator via the tractor display if levels move outside pre-set limits. Bale size, drop location and moisture data are all logged in the Operations Center, helping farmers track performance across fields and build dry matter maps for better crop management.

Weave automation

The V452R and V462R variable chamber models have seen a 15% increase in driveline power intake, translating into an 8% gain in productivity.

A standout new feature, weave automation, uses a flexible drawbar to automatically guide the baler across the windrow-no manual weaving required. The system reacts to chamber fill levels, producing consistently shaped bales while reducing crop loss.

An active hitch further improves tracking around bends, following curved windrows with precision. Together with a tight turning radius and a fast bale release system that completes unloading in just three seconds, operators can cover more ground with less effort.

Meanwhile, a double-belt system compresses crops up to 140kg/m3-around 7% denser than previous models-for firm, uniform bales.

Weighing and wrapping precision

For silage operations, the C442R, C452R and C462R wrapping balers feature an optional integrated bale weighing system. Sensors on the transport table rollers record each bale’s weight on the move, providing accurate load data without any extra steps.

A 40rpm wrapping arm speed keeps pace with the baler’s output, ensuring no time is lost during wrapping. Operators can customise controls through ISOBUS Aux-n and manage key functions via the CommandPRO lever for smoother, single-handed operation.

Easy to maintain

The V452M and V462M models deliver up to 8% higher productivity thanks to increased driveline capacity. New endless belts with a rougher surface improve net feeding, particularly in damp or sticky conditions.

All new balers benefit from hydraulic knife engagement, allowing operators to activate or retract knives from the cab with greater force and accuracy. Maintenance is simplified with improved access points, extended greasing intervals and a chain auto-lube system.

The G5e touchscreen display and built-in automation make operation intuitive, while hands-free bale ejection saves time in the field.
