Hi-Spec Engineering is expanding the options available across its tandem and tridem axle Kompactor trailers and slurry tankers, with the launch of a FAD SIDRA hydraulic axle suspension system and an electric steering option to replace conventional forced hydraulics. Both developments will be on display at LAMMA.
The hydraulic axle suspension system is available on all tandem and tridem Kompactor trailers and tankers and is designed to improve stability, ride quality and overall productivity. A key beneficiary is the Hi-Spec 5000 Tri-SR slurry tanker, which will be shown fitted with the system.
One of the main advantages is the ability of the suspension to self-stabilise on slopes, reducing the risk of roll-over, while also delivering a smoother ride over rough ground. This allows higher forward speeds in the field and greater work rates. Each wheel operates independently, meaning the suspension absorbs uneven ground far more effectively than conventional systems.

When working across slopes, the tanker or trailer body can effectively self-level, improving safety and operator confidence. The system also allows the operator to raise or lower the chassis height as required, while for road transport when empty, the front axle can be lifted to reduce tyre wear. By spreading weight more evenly across all axles, the suspension helps minimise soil compaction and provides more consistent braking performance.
Alongside this, Hi-Spec is offering electric steering on all machines with tandem or tridem running gear. While delivering the same benefits as forced hydraulic steering, the electric system is simpler, tidier and adds extra functionality, including crab steering to further reduce compaction.
The system uses sensors mounted on the axles to monitor steering angle and direction of travel, supported by a gyroscope that detects changes in orientation. Control is via ISOBUS from the tractor cab, with axles able to operate automatically or be adjusted manually. For road safety, steering can be locked out above a set speed, determined by the operator.
One of the largest machines in the Hi-Spec tanker range, the 5000 Tri-SR has a capacity of 22,700 litres. The tanker on display features a semi-recessed chassis to lower overall height and runs on tridem commercial multi-leaf axles with forced front and rear steering. Standard specification includes 710/50 R26.5 BKT tyres, air/hydraulic brakes and a 14,000-litre Jurop pump with an 8in autofill/turbo fill system.
Also on the stand will be the XCEL 1250 rear discharge spreader, capable of spreading a wide range of materials evenly up to 24m, and a K36 Kompactor push-off trailer, which can increase payloads by up to 40% while avoiding the risks associated with tipping.
