Last weekend’s Oyster Festival in Stranraer has been hailed one of the town’s greatest successes, showcasing their finest seafood on the shores of Loch Ryan.

The family orientated event boasted a fun-packed schedule with lots for all the family to enjoy; award winning children’s entertainment, chef cooking demonstrations, music, fireworks, delicious oysters and much more.

Local MSP Emma Harper attended the event and expressed her enthusiasm for what she believed to be one of the best events ever held in the South West.

“A tremendous amount of work has gone into this year’s event to make it even bigger and better than last year’s, so I would like to say a massive well done to Romano Petrucci and the Stranraer Development Trust as well as everyone else who helped to organise the weekend event. They have all done a terrific job,” she enthused.

“A special mention goes to the young people from Stranraer College and Quarriers Stranraer for giving up their free time to volunteer in the build up to this event,” she continued. “This is the Year of Young People and it’s fitting that these volunteers were involved in making the Stranraer Oyster Festival the success it was.”

Emma concluded: “The Stranraer Oyster Festival has done so much to put a spotlight on this, one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland and to showcase what we have to offer to visitors.”
