THE CREAM of the crop in UK farming gathered in Glasgow this week to attend the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust Annual Conference and Dinner, 2018.

Nuffield Farming Scholarships are awarded to approximately 20 individuals each year, with the opportunity to research topics of interest in either farming, food, horticulture or rural industries. A bursary of approximately £7000 is given towards travel and subsistence expenses.

Scholars are encouraged to travel anywhere in the world for a period of no less than eight weeks to further their knowledge and understanding of their chosen study topic. On return from their travels a written report will be submitted and published and individuals will present their findings, the conclusions they have reached and the recommendations to the industry at the Annual Nuffield Farming Conference.

This year’s conference began in Glasgow today, November 21, running til Friday 23, to showcase the work of the 2017 scholars who will give presentations of their 18 month study and travel projects following the publication of their reports.

The event will see the new 2019 scholars receive their Nuffield Farming Scholarship and it will also host the 2018 Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust AGM.

Three awards will be presented at the conference: The HSBC Silver Salver for the best written report published by a 2016 Scholar. The John Stewart Shield for the best presentation at this years conference. Lastly, The Steven and Gill Bullock Award which acknowledges the individual who has been most effective in using their scholarship to develop their business, innovate and contribute to the industry.
