THE FIRST of Scotland’s strawberry crop are now on sale in Aldi as of today (April 29), with fresh punnets arriving in store just in time for National Strawberry Month in May.

Aldi is the first supermarket of 2019 to stock strawberries - which have arrived earlier than last year. The store is supplied by Angus Growers member Tim Stockwell from his Barnsmuir farm on the outskirts of Crail, Fife.

Although the traditional Scottish strawberry season doesn’t typically start for another few weeks, Angus Soft Fruits has been able to deliver these homegrown strawberries to Aldi due to advancements in polytunnel technology and their innovative Seaton System™.

This has led to an increase in the length of the season in Scotland from six weeks to almost nine months, meaning customers can enjoy Scottish-grown strawberries earlier and for longer than ever before.

Group Buying Director for Aldi Scotland, Graham Nicolson commented: “At Aldi, we know our customers look forward to the arrival of Scottish strawberries as it signals the start of summer. Aldi is 100% committed to supporting Scottish suppliers and it’s great to be the first grocer to stock hand-picked, Scottish-grown strawberries in all our stores,” he enthused.

Punnets of Aldi’s Nature’s Pick Strawberries (£1.79, 227g) and Specially Selected Strawberries (£1.85, 227g), will be available from all 86 Aldi stores in Scotland from today.
