LAWRIE and Symington have announced the appointment of Gordon Renwick as its new board chairman.

Mr Renwick, who farms at Traquair Knowe and Howford, Innerleithen, has been appointed to the position following the untimely death of Brian Dickie in September this year.

L and S said that Mr Renwick's 'extensive farming background and property development experience' had been invaluable since he joined its board in 2012. He is now the longest serving member of that board and has been a staunch supporter of the company, both as a director and as a regular customer at the market, and will be well known to many shareholders, customers and staff.

Mr Renwick, who takes over at a time when the business is doing well despite the difficult trading conditions for the agricultural industry, said: “It is a great honour to be allowed to chair this business which has been part of my life over many years. I am committed to see the business continue to move forward.”

L and S celebrated 150 years of trading in Lanark in 2017, and continues to operate from its base at the Lanark Agricultural Centre in addition to the company’s second site at Forfar Mart.
