Angus Soft fruits commercial director, John Gray

Our wish is for happy consumers satisfied with their purchase of British soft fruit from happy retailers grown by happy growers employing happy workers!

To achieve this, most urgently, we need access to labour through an extended SAWS scheme otherwise there is a real danger that not all our fruit will be harvested.

For the past 20 years there has been little changes in the price which we are paid for our fruit. Over this time costs of production, in the case of fruit primarily labour costs, have increased dramatically. Retailers should pay a price which fairly reflects the cost of production allowing growers to be economically sustainable. At the same time consumers should be willing to pay a fair price for quality British fruit. This will allow the industry to thrive and invest in the future.

Our resolution is to continue to passionately drive the industry forward for the benefit of all and to continue to invest in and develop our people, the main drivers of our successful business.
