PERTHSHIRE POTATO supplier Branston has exceeded the half-way point in its bid to virtually travel the world in 80 days for charity.

Over 100 employees and suppliers have taken up the challenge to walk, run and cycle their way around the world – a target of 24,901 miles – in support of its charity of the year Rachel House, which provides care for babies, children and young people with a range of life-shortening conditions.

The company is on track to reach its target having so far racked up more than 12,500 miles in 40 days between the three sites – which means covering more than 300 miles a day.

The challenge launched on Saturday, August 8 and will finish on Monday, October 26.

Managing director at Branston, James Truscott, said: “We’re really proud of all the team for getting involved and helping us to achieve our goal for our chosen charity. We’ve had staff from all our sites walking, running and cycling. Some are fitting it in to their lunchbreaks or after work, while some are making the most of some very active weekends and holidays.”

“We’ve been really lucky with the weather so far and we anticipate it will become more of a challenge as the winter months approach. However, our employees are really pushing themselves to go out and exercise, and we all look forward to reaching the virtual finish line.”
