Ferret owners have been asked to register their ferrets to protect public health.
Although there have been no human outbreaks of Covid-19 associated with ferrets, as a precaution against an outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 – the virus that causes COVID-19 – all ferret keepers across Great Britain are being encouraged to sign up to the ferret register. This information will be used to determine the size and location of the kept GB ferret population.
Once joined, ferret owners will receive updates and guidance in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak associated with kept ferrets or other animals from the Mustelinae family.
