Mitchells Auction Mart sold 1383 lambs to a top of £170 on two occasions, firstly for a Texel from G Gate, Hollins Farm, Eaglesfield and then again for a Beltex from Messrs Crozier and Langcake, High Moss, Bassenthwaite, or to 363.2p for Beltex from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle.

Ewes sold to £175 for a Texel from J Blackburn, Greenbank Close, Prospect.

Penrith

Limousin cross heifers sold to 265p and £1749 at Penrith and District Farmers’ Mart's sale from JJ Crichton, Loughrigg, while prime bulls reached 249.5p and £1749 for a 703kg British Blue cross from D Raine, Old Parks

The sale of OTM cattle peaked at 185.5p and £1602.72 for an 864kg Limousin bull from R and J M Ridley, Ranbeck, while D Raine, Old Parks, led the cow section with a Limousin at £1376.67 or 163.5p.

The firm also sold 2292 prime lambs which averaged £127.94 having peaked at 390p for 39kg Beltex from W Gribbon and Co, Waterside Farm or to £163 for 47kg Texel crosses from TF and GL Pollock, Wreay Hall Farm.

Cast ewes reached £240 for three Texels from H McRae, Huntly.

Wooler

Harrison and Hetherington had forward 731 lambs, which balanced out at 268p with an SQQ of 278p. Beltex from Glanton Town and Lilburn Estates topped the trade at £150 and 344p respectively.

A top price of £200 was paid for a Texel ewe from Eastgate, whilst cast tups sold to £149 for another of the same from JHC Campbell and Son, Thrunton.

Dumfries

Texels from Shambellie Grange and Suffolks from Meikleholm led C and D Auction Marts' sale of prime lambs per head at £135 or 303p per kg for Texels from Pendicle. The sale levelled at 271.6p.

Some 210 cast ewes and rams reached a top of £172 for Texels from Meikleholm, while more of the same led the tups at £132 from 28 Birchwood Way.

Forfar

Some 304 new season lambs were forward at Lawrie and Symington's sale, with the trade topping at £163 for three 53kg Texels from PM Sharp, Nether Logie or to 334p on two occasions – for a 47kg Suffolk from WK and P Drysdale, Middle Drimmie and a pair of 44kg Texel from D and I Mackintosh, Kirkton of Kingoldrum. The sale averaged 280.2p.

Texels also led the cast sheep with ewes from Hatton of Carse attaining £198 and Inverdovat topping the tups at £134.

Stirling (Cale)

Caledonian Marts' sale of 1004 hoggs averaged 263.52p having sold to 298p and £149 for of Beltex from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuthill, Muthill.

A top price of £158 was achieved in the cast ewe ring for a Texel from G Harley, Craiglaw, with tups selling to £150 from JH Duncan, Drumheldric.

Thirsk

Thirsk Auction Market's weekly sale of 1596 primestock saw 46 heifers sell to 301.5p and £1910.70, to average 253.75p.

The consignment of eight steers reached 283.5p and £1774.71, to cash in at 253.07p, while young bulls made 269.5p or £1886.50, to balance out at 214.14p.

The firm also sold 1342 lambs which saw prices peak to 342.1p and £163.50, to average 278.71p.

A top price of £180 was paid in the cast ewe ring, which levelled at £109.21, whilst tups balanced out at £104.44 having sold to £113.

Stirling (UA)

Texels from Easter Ochtermuthill and Beltex from Newton of Crathie topped United Auctions' prime lamb trade at £146 and 346p respectively, to cash in at 270.39p.

The 1187 cast sheep were led by Townhead with Texel ewes making £220, while tups peaked at £180 for more of the same from Over Finlarg.

Thainstone

Beltex were highly sought after at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 1120 prime lambs, which balanced out at 265.5p having peaked at 340.9p for 44kg entries from Muirfield, Everton of Auchry or to £159 for 50kg Beltex from West Cairnhill, Culsalmond.

The 383 feeding sheep balanced out at £105.33 having reached £248 for continental ewes from Logie Durno, Pitcaple.

Longtown

C and D Auction Marts' sale of 5164 prime lambs saw Beltex top the section at 430p from Moir Livestock, Home Farm, Aberdeen or to £182 for Texels from WJ Scott Ltd, Low Leam, Hexham, to level at 284.1p with an SQQ of 287.7p.

The 2510 ewes peaked at £224 for Texels from Howgillside Farmers, Eaglesfield, while rams sold to £168 for Bluefaced Leicesters from W Walton and Sons, Dunns House.

St Boswells

Bee Edge took all the top prices at Harrison and Hetherington's sale, where heifers attained £1786.74 and 300p while bullocks sold to £1774.80 and 290p, to balance out at 262p and 259p respectively.

Cast cows were led by entries from Kersknowe at 209p and £1805.76, to average 150p.

The 990 prime hoggs cashed in at 279p having sold to £152 for Texels from Bonjedward or to 333.3p for Beltex from Faughhill.

Cast tups were topped at £175 for a Texel from J and J Campbell, Wedderlie Farmhouse, while ewes peaked at £160 for another of the same from Stuart Robson of Buckholm Farmhouse.

Lanark

Lawrie and Symington's sale saw heifers reach 268p on two occasions for Limousins from Messrs Baillie, Calla, Carnwath or to £1607 for more of the same from Kingside, Leadburn.

Limousins also led the bullocks at 262p from Messrs Taylor, Heatheryhall, Lanark or to £1661 from Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, Carluke.

A smaller show of 2720 prime hoggs was topped at £148 for Suffolks from Messrs Pate, Toxside and to 318p for Beltex from Messrs Gilchrist, Ingraston, to average 272p with an SQQ of 274p.

The 1455 cast ewes and rams reached £262 for two Texels from Messrs Neilson, East Brackenridge.

Carlisle

A smaller consignment of 36 prime cattle was forward for Harrison and Hetherington's sale, with bullocks topped at £1890.70 and 255.5p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle.

Heifers achieved £1798.74 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Neill,Upper Tinwald, Dumfries and to 263.5p for a Limousin cross from Messrs Wilson, Petteril Hill, Carlisle.

Messrs Jarman, Brow Top led the cast cows at £1661 with a Limousin and 227.5p for a British Blue.

Prime hoggs sold to average 282p with an SQQ of 292p, with Messrs Hodgson, Woodend Farm, Egremont leading the trade with Beltex at £172 and 412.5p.

Cast sheep peaked at £178 for two Texel ewes from Messrs Hudson, Rigg House, while tups sold to £160 for two Leicester from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House.

Ayr

Averages levelled at 272.4p per kg at Craig Wilson Marts' sale of 1329 hoggets, which sold to £147 for a Texel cross from A Templeton, Low Drumclog and Ian McFadzean, Broadshean or to 317.5p paid for three pens of Beltex crosses from J McGill, Altewan.

A top of £200 was paid for Texel ewes from G Gatherer, Fairlynne, while tups sold to £157 for a Zwartbles from G McCarter, Cauldhame.

Kirkby Stephen

Harrison and Hetherington's sale saw a top price of £200 paid for a 52kg Beltex cross from Messrs Skelton, Newhall Farm, Maryport or to 402.6p for four 39kg Beltex crosses from Messrs Burbridge, Park Farm, Stamford.

Goats peaked at £120 for a 48kg entry from Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge, while ewes made £198 for a pair of Texels from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Darlington.

Wigton

Hopes Auctioneers sold 18 prime heifers to a top of 275.5p for a 21-month-old Limousin from RE Miller, West Farm or to £1923.65 for a 771kg Charolais from J Dixon and Sons, Lesson Hall.

The 1058 prime hoggs balanced out at 300p having sold to £167 for a pair of 66.5kg Texels from G Spark, High Blaithwaite and 373p for a pair of 44.5kg Dutch Texels from The Laurels, Dundraw.

Texels from Moor Platt Farm led the cast ewes at £157, while rams attained £148 for more of the same from Greystoke Castle Farm.

Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts sold 1699 prime hoggs to average 268.23p with an SQQ of 271.55p. Trade peaked at £139.50 for Beltex from Messrs Walker, Mindork and to 311.8 for Texels from Messrs Craig, Compstonend.

A top price of £215 was paid for Beltex in the cast ewe ring from Messrs McKie, Finniness, while rams attained £155 for Texels from Messrs McCornick, Barnbackle.
