Carlisle

Aberdeen-Angus were in demand at Harrison and Hetherington's store sale topping both the steers and heifers at £1210 and £1130, from Limekilns and Windy Nook respectively.

A British Blue steer secured the top price of £1200 among the weaned cattle for Low Three Mark.

British Blues also topped the weaned heifers at £910 from New House Farm, whilst bulls hit £960 for a Limousin from The Firs.

The opening sale of 344 calves was topped at £500 on four occasions – for a Limousin bull calf from Messrs Ireland, Morley Hill; from Messrs Crozier, Raggetsyke, and for a pair of British Blue bulls from Messrs Fisher, Smalmstown.

Heifers achieved £450 on two occasions – for British Blues from Messrs Osborne, Cow Lane, and again for a Simmental from Messrs Ireland.

Bullocks and heifers cashed in at 236.56p per kg and 226.30p respectively at United Auctions' sale of 1109 store cattle.

Bullocks reached 290.70p per kg for a 346kg Charolais cross from Sorn Mains, and to £1540 twice – for a 712kg Charolais cross from Wester Thirds, and a 670kg Limousin cross from High Unthank.

Charolais crosses also led the heifers, achieving 281.30p for a 391kg entry from Netherton, and to £1450 for a 601kg animal from Knockshinnoch.

Young bulls cashed in at 195.69p having sold to 212.60p for a Limousin cross from Lurgan, and to £830 for another of the same from Carstraan.

The firm also sold 844 store and feeding sheep, to a top of £101 for Texels from Thirds.

Dairy cattle were in demand at Craig Wilson's weekly sale when a Holstein Friesian heifer made £2450 for J and C Drummond, Coilsholm.

Also forward was 85 calves and stirks, which sold to £580 for a pair of Limousin cross bull calves from John L McCubbin and Son, Garrockhill, whilst heifers peaked at £550 for a British Blue cross from DS Parker and Son, Merkland.

Stirks reached £690 for Limousin cross bullocks from J and R Mitchell, Fowler, with Simmental crosses topping the heifers at £660 for G Marshall, Lochend.
