TWO OF the UK’s top sporting estates are introducing simulated game shooting.

On simulated shoots, clays are delivered to guns from hidden mobile traps out and about on the estate, much more closely mimicking the experience of a live bird drive – but unlimited by either season or bird numbers.

Drumlanrig in Dumfries & Galloway, and Boughton Estate in Northamptonshire – both part of Buccleuch – are now offering the experience to both novice and seasoned guns.

At Drumlanrig, the simulated shoots are based on a high ground experience inspired by the partridge and pheasant drives that the estate is renowned for. The simulated drives at Boughton are based on a lowland shoot based around the historic parkland, with a mixture of clays providing partridge, pheasant and duck-like flighting. Both shoots at Boughton and Drumlanrig will use high quality biodegradable eco clays.

Estate manager for Boughton and Drumlanrig, Anna Fergusson: “The estates offer the complete package of heritage, hospitality and magnificent scenery that help to make the shoots so special.

“Simulated game shoots on estates such as ours have been increasing in popularity over recent years, with demand from novices to experienced guns who often want to get sharpened for the season ahead.

“We’re delighted that the two estates will be running these simulated game days and there are a variety of options available to book. We believe it will provide the enjoyment of traditional shoots whilst having the added bonus of some warmer spring and summer conditions.”
